The Minnesota Twins and the Detroit Tigers meet Tuesday in MLB doubleheader action from Comerica Park. These will be the second and third installments in a four-game series. On Monday in the opener, the Tigers posted a two-run win. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Minnesota played the Royals over the weekend, winning two of the four games. On Monday in the opener versus Detroit, the Twins had a 3-1 lead at one point in the fourth but couldn’t hang on in an eventual 7-5 loss. Starter Dylan Bundy finished with 6.0 innings, four earned, nine hits and three Ks.

For game one of the doubleheader the Twins will send out Devin Smeltzer. This year Smeltzer is 1-0 with a 1.04 ERA and eight Ks. As for game two, it’ll be Cole Sands. Over two games (zero starts) Sands has a 6.75 ERA and six Ks in 4.0 innings.

Over on the Tigers’ side, they played Cleveland over the weekend. Detroit won Thursday and Sunday to take the series. On Monday the Tigers notched 13 hits in the victory. Beau Briske lasted 5.2 innings in the start with four earned on six hits and two walks.

As the game one starter Monday Detroit will go with Rony Garcia. So far Garcia has a 3.00 ERA and 22 Ks without a decision. In game two, the Tigers are sending out Joey Wentz. This year Wentz is 0-1 with a 20.25 ERA and one K in his lone start.

The Twins are 8-3 in their last 11 in game two of a series and 7-2 in their last nine versus a right-handed starter. Minnesota is 11-24 in their last 35 Tuesday games.

Meanwhile, the Tigers are 1-7 in their last eight Tuesday games and 5-12 in their last 17 in game two of a series. Detroit is 20-44 in their last 64 opening games of a doubleheader.

GAME 1 PICK: I’m going to stay with the Twins in game one. Smeltzer is coming off 7.0 clean innings versus the Royals with two hits and a walk in his last start. Garcia posted two earned in 4.0 innings his last time up, so this should be an interesting starter matchup.

GAME 2 PICK: For game two, I’m probably still leaning Twins. This one’s going to be interesting as well, though. Wentz has just the one start to his credit: 2.2 innings with six earned on seven hits and two walks versus the A’s on May 11. He’ll most certainly be better in his second outing, as will Sands. We’ll have to see what happens.
