The Boston Red Sox and the Detroit Tigers meet Saturday in MLB action from Comerica Park. This will be the second installment in a three-game series. Boston won the first game on Thursday, taking the victory 6-3. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Boston Red Sox

Boston played the Pirates early this week, falling in three straight games 7-6, 4-1 and 4-1 again. The Red Sox were able to bounce back in Thursday’s matchup versus the Tigers, winning 6-3. Starter Chris Sale put up 5.0 innings with three earned on four hits and three walks.

As starter for the Saturday game, the Sox will send out Tanner Houck. In his first start of the year, Houck went 5.0 innings with three earned on five hits and one walk in a victory. Houck is 10-9 with a 3.10 ERA in his career over 54 games (21 starts).

Detroit Tigers

Over on the Detroit side, they were able to win two of three games versus the Astros this week. The Tigers had an early 3-1 lead over Boston on Thursday but couldn’t hold it. Spencer Turnbull managed 5.2 frames on five hits and two walks in the starting role.

It’ll be Joey Wentz in the start for the Tigers on Saturday. In his first start of the 2023, Wentz put up 5.1 innings with three earned, four hits and a walk during a loss. He’s 2-3 in his career with a 3.32 ERA in eight starts.

The Red Sox are 5-1 in their last six versus a lefty starter and 5-2 in their last seven after a win. Boston is 9-4 in their last 13 on grass.

Meanwhile, the Tigers are 5-2 in their last seven at home and 5-2 in the last seven in game two of a series. Detroit is 2-8 in their last 10 overall.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll stick with Boston in this one, but I’m probably not touching it. Houck should be able to put up another solid outing here; he pitched pretty well in his season debut during a win over the Orioles. Boston’s six runs on Thursday were a good sign for the offense in this series. The Sox had scored just one run in each of the previous two outings. As for the Tigers, they couldn’t get Wentz much offense in his first start this year, but he didn’t pitch too badly. All things considered though, Boston should be in control.
