Dodgers vs. Marlins prediction and odds for Tuesday, Sept. 5 (Trust Clayton Kershaw)

The Los Angeles Dodgers have a chance to play spoiler for the Miami Marlins’ playoff hopes in their series this week.

Los Angeles is a lock to win the NL West, but Miami is just half a game behind the Arizona Diamondbacks and Cincinnati Reds for the final wild card spot in the NL.

Can Miami win this series to put itself in a better position in the standings? It starts with young lefty Jesus Luzardo on the mound against Dodgers veteran Clayton Kershaw on Tuesday night.

Let’s break down the odds and my best bet for this contest:

Luzardo closed the month of August strong, pitching 12.0 innings of three-hit, no-run ball in two starts against the San Diego Padres and Tampa Bay Rays.

However, Miami went just 1-1 in those games.

The team’s offense has been better against left-handed pitching this season, ranking 10th in OPS, but that’s still behind the Dodgers (No. 4).

I have a hard time fading Kershaw in any spot this season, especially since the Dodgers are 15-5 in Kershaw’s 20 starts in 2023.

The team has won six straight starts by the future Hall of Famer, and I think the Dodgers can make it No. 7 tonight. While Luzardo has been solid as of late, I’m worried about Miami’s bullpen (4.11 season ERA) holding up against an elite Dodgers offense.

At this short price, Los Angeles is worth a bet with Kershaw on the mound.
