After wrapping up this year’s summer break, Formula 1 is back in action this weekend with Sunday’s Dutch Grand Prix at Circuit Zandvoort (9:00 am ET, ESPN).

Will things pick up where they left off last month at the Belgian Grand Prix? At Spa, Max Verstappen won his eighth consecutive race and his tenth of the season, increasing his lead in the World Drivers’ Championship standings to 125 points over Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez.

With a Dutch Grand Prix win, Verstappen will match the Formula 1 record for most consecutive wins. In 2013, Sebastian Vettel won nine straight races on the way to winning his fourth consecutive title.

A third consecutive title for Verstappen is a formality at this point, and after dominant performance after dominant performance this season, record-tying and record-breaking wins seem to be as well.

As expected, Verstappen, who has won both editions of the Dutch Grand Prix since its return to the F1 calendar two years ago, is a huge favorite for his home race, with Lewis Hamilton considered the likeliest driver to put an end to the record pursuit.

Dutch Grand Prix Predictions & Picks

In Friday’s first practice session, Verstappen posted the best time, with Alonso and Hamilton coming second and third.

It’s unlikely to be the last time that Verstappen is the fastest car on this race weekend.

Entering the Dutch Grand Prix, Verstappen has started from pole seven times this season, and he posted the fastest qualifying time at the Belgian Grand Prix but had to start sixth due to a five-place grid penalty.

He also has recorded the fastest lap of the race six times this season, including three races in a row before Hamilton recorded the fastest lap at the Belgian Grand Prix.

At Bovada, Verstappen is +150 to be the fastest qualifier, record the fastest race lap, and win the race. He pulled off the trifecta at last year’s Dutch Grand Prix, and he has done it three times this season, at the Spanish Grand Prix, British Grand Prix, and Austrian Grand Prix, Red Bull’s home race.

That isn’t the best betting value on the board, however. Bovada has a number of intriguing Dutch Grand Prix race specials, and the one that sticks out the most is Alonso, Hamilton, Leclerc, Perez, Russell, Sainz, Lance Stroll, and Verstappen to finish in the points at +350 odds.

Sainz, who finished seventh in the Dutch Grand Prix in 2021 and eighth in 2022, retired early at the Belgian Grand Prix after being unable to overcome damage caused by a first-lap collision with Oscar Piastri.

But his only other finish outside the points this season came at the Australian Grand Prix, where he finished 12th.

Stroll, who finished in tenth at Zandvoort last year, is the most tenuous option in the group, but he has finished in the points eight times, including each of the last two races.

Speaking of Stroll, each time he has finished in the points this season, so has teammate Alonso. Given the percentages, +115 odds for a Dutch Grand Prix top-ten finish for both Aston Martin cars make this an easy pick.

Sure, this is a lot of faith to put in Lance Stroll, of all people. But when the races themselves aren’t overly interesting at the moment, the bets might as well be, right?
