In the second period, Edmonton held an 18-11 advantage in shots on goal and they tallied the lone goal of the period to lead 1-0 after 40 minutes of play. Zach Hyman opened the scoring with his 23 goal of the season, on the power play, at 18:08 off assists from Evan Bouchard and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. In the third period, Edmonton had a 13-11 advantage in shots and outscored Ottawa 2-1 to secure the win. Hyman made it a 2-0 game with his 24 goal of the season at 2:46 off an assist from Bouchard. After the Senators scored to halve the lead, Hyman finished his hat trick with his third goal of the night and 25 of the season at 17:10 on the power play off assists from Connor McDavid and Bouchard. Stuart Skinner made 29 saves for the Oilers, who held a 46-30 shot edge, in the victory. He’s supposed to be between the pipes again here.

Against Calgary, Chicago did just enough offensively to come up with a victory at home in this contest. The Blackhawks were outshot 6-5 in the opening period of play and skated off tied at one after 20 minutes of play. Colin Blackwell opened the scoring with his second goal of the season at 4:32 off assists from Jarred Tinordi and Connor Murphy. They gave up the tying goal later in the period. In the second period, Chicago was outshot by a 14-12 margin and outscored Calgary 2-1 to take a 3-2 lead at the second intermission. Chicago would be hard-pressed to hang in this game if they were healthy but as it stands, they look like a glorified AHL squad. Connor Bedard, Nick Foligno, Taylor Hall and Seth Jones headline the group of talented players on injured reserve at this point in time, leaving Chicago with a lot of high-dollar talent off the ice. Now, they have to face an Edmonton team that has been rolling offensively with firepower coming throughout their lineup. Skinner has stabilized things between the pipes for the Oilers and they have the high-octane trio of McDavid, Leon Draisaitl and Hyman to lead the way offensively. Look for Edmonton to pick up the road victory in this contest to keep the good times going.

Prediction: Edmonton Oilers -1.5 (-140)

Rating:

Edmonton enters this game having seen the over go 18-15-3 in their 34 games on the year. The Oilers have an average total of 6.72 goals per game this season though that number climbs to 6.89 goals per contest on the road this season. Chicago has seen the under post a 21-17-2 mark in their 40 games on the season entering Wednesday. The Blackhawks have seen an average total of 6.10 goals per game this season and that number falls to 5.61 goals per game on the road. Edmonton can pile up goals but they may not need more than three to get the win here. Lean toward the under in this contest as it ends up as a 4-2 type of game.

Prediction: Under 6.5
