Expect a Goodison goalfest

Everton have responded superbly to their 10-point sanction for alleged financial irregularities, winning three of their past four Premier League games, but a three-day turnaround makes things tougher for them against Chelsea.

The Toffees will have exerted a lot of energy in Thursday’s 3-0 win at home to a depleted Newcastle side and backing it up against the west Londoners, who are on a recovery mission, will not be easy.

Chelsea have shown plenty of promise under boss Mauricio Pochettino, highlighted by score draws with Arsenal and Manchester City and wins over Tottenham and Brighton.

However, there have also been plenty of inconsistencies during his reign, notably a 4-1 loss at Newcastle and their 2-1 defeat on Wednesday night away to Manchester United, who were able to rack up 28 shots.

One common theme in Chelsea’s recent displays has been goals and the trend should continue at Goodison, where over 2.5 goals has featured in five of Everton’s past six matches in all competitions.

Both teams have scored in seven of the west Londoners’ previous eight league matches and each of those contests featured at least three strikes.

Everton vs Chelsea tip 1: Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals @ 1/1 with Paddy Power

Calvert-Lewin showing form

Everton forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin has scored only four goals in 13 league and cup appearances this season – but provided he stays fit and healthy, he should soon be able to bolster that tally.

Calvert-Lewin had six shots against Newcastle in midweek, three of which were on target, and he looks likely to cause plenty of problems for a Chelsea back line who have failed to keep a clean sheet in eight league fixtures.

The Toffees forward missed a sitter against the Magpies and at 12-5 he packs plenty of appeal to make amends with a goal against the Blues.

Young adds bet-builder value

Everton go into this contest in excellent form so the Goodison crowd should be in full voice, which could contribute to another positive performance from Sean Dyche’s men.

The Toffees had five corners in their midweek win at home to Newcastle while they registered six in their previous match on Merseyside against Manchester United.

They can rack up at least four more against Chelsea and there may also be a card in the offing for veteran Ashley Young, who has five yellows and a red from 14 Premier League appearances this term.

Young committed four fouls against Newcastle on Thursday evening without being punished.

The final selection in our 6/1 bet builder is for Everton dangerman Calvert-Lewin to be fouled at least once. The Toffees forward won three free kicks against the Magpies in midweek.

Everton vs Chelsea tip 3: Bet builder: over 3.5 Everton corners, Ashley Young to be shown a card and Dominic Calvert-Lewin to be fouled one or more times @ 6.41/1 with Paddy Power
