F1 Austrian Grand Prix Odds & Picks

Max Verstappen has won three times at the Red Bull Ring, and is a heavy favorite to claim his fourth Austrian Grand Prix title — and win his fifth straight GP. We've got the latest Austrian Grand Prix Odds... and our best bets for Sunday's race.

To say it's been smooth sailing for Max Verstappen and Red Bull in 2023 would be a bit of an understatement.

Max is dominating week in and week out, and Red Bull is sitting more than 150 points clear of Mercedes in the Constructors' Championship.

That dominance looks well on its way to continuing at the Red Bull Ring this weekend, as with Formula 1 odds again have Verstappen as a huge favorite after he took the pole in Friday's qualifying and won Saturday's sprint race.

Ahead of the full race on Sunday, here are the latest Austrian GP odds and — Austrian Grand Prix best bets.

Austrian Grand Prix 2023 picks

Race prediction: Verstappen to win

Charles Leclerc may be the reigning champion of the Austrian Grand Prix.
And he may have given Verstappen some trouble in qualifying.
AND he has the benefit of teammate Carlos Sainz beginning third on the grid to his second.

But let's be real: Verstappen is an entirely different force from multiple angles: He's won four straight Grand Prix and has an opportunity on Sunday to tie his career-long streak of five. Plus, the Austrian Grand Prix is arguably Max's best event having won in 2018, 2019, and 2021 — and finishing second last year.

He's won each of the last four races by massive gaps, so even with the Ferrari challenge, Verstappen has shown he is more than capable of separating himself from the rest of the grid.

Pick: Verstappen to win (-400 at DraftKings)

Best bet: Winning margin 10 or more seconds

We took this bet during the Canadian Grand Prix and just narrowly lost, but it's worth a revisit at the Red Bull Ring.

This prop opened at -200 and in our opening odds reaction, we noted that this prop was worth betting after qualifying given that Saturday's qualifying round could be closely contested.

And yet: Despite securing pole position, the prop is still available at -200.

As noted before, this track is Verstappen's bread and butter and, on top of, that he has been beating the rest of the grid by absurd margins of late. In his last three races alone he has won by 9.570 (Canada), 24.090 (Spain), and 27.921 seconds (Monaco).

Leclerc remains his biggest threat on Sunday but the Ferrari primary has had his fair share of struggles this season and, despite his second-place finish in qualifying, he didn't really show enough consistency in the earlier rounds (fifth in both the first and second rounds) to expect him to have the juice to compete come Sunday.

Pick: Winning margin 10 or more seconds (-200 at FanDuel)

Austrian Grand Prix 2023 post-qualifying favorites

Max Verstappen (-400)

What is there to say about Max Verstappen that hasn't been said already?

His complete and utter dominance of the F1 grid is reaching new heights: he's won four straight races (each by sizable margins) and six of eight overall this season.

Verstappen's also seen great success at Red Bull Ring in recent years, winning three of the last five Austrian GPs. He finished second to Charles Leclerc in 2022 and was forced to retire early in 2020. Otherwise, we could be looking at an even stronger string of results.

His claiming of pole position in Friday's qualifying — and victory in Saturday's sprint — surprised no one, and he now is in the -300 to -500 range.

Austrian Grand Prix 2023 odds (without Verstappen)

Week in and week out, we're seeing Max Verstappen listed as a heavy favorite and with him continuing to deliver, the value is being sucked out of the outright winner markets.

Enter the "Without Verstappen" market, where you can bet on the race's top finisher excluding the Red Bull superstar. When Max wins, that will be the runner-up... when he doesn't win, it will simply be the race winner.

Austrian Grand Prix opening odds reaction

As if you needed a reminder, Verstappen has been thoroughly dominant throughout 2023 and is the runaway favorite to win his fifth consecutive race and seventh on the season. And in the two races where he hasn't emerged victorious, Verstappen has come in second behind Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez, who is understandably a clear second on the odds board.

All this winning has taken a bit of the drama out of the proceedings, but seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton has been more in the mix with two of his three podium finishes coming in back-to-back races. As a result, he is neck-and-neck with Fernando Alonso with the Spaniard having shorter odds depending on the book. Alonso finished second in the Canadian Grand Prix for his sixth podium finish in eight tries this year.

After them, it's a bit of a steep drop-off to the rest of the field.

Austrian Grand Prix 2023 pre-qualifying picks

Max Verstappen to win (-280)

Even before breaking out as the dominant force in 2021, Max Verstappen has been posting results at the Austrian Grand Prix since joining Formula One. In his first race there in 2015, he brought home an eighth-place finish, and in 2016 he took home second.

2017 brought a retirement but he recovered in a big way by bringing home wins in 2018, 2019, and 2021. Last year he was edged out by Charles LeClerc by +1.532 seconds, but with 41 seconds separating the two and the rest of the field.

One angle for this weekend in particular, however, is that there is currently an 80% chance of rain for Saturday's qualifying round. Wet qualification sessions typically are higher-variance, and a win by anyone other than Verstappen could open up a great smash opportunity on Max.

Lean: Wait until qualifying, then bet Verstappen if the field wins.

Charles Leclerc fastest qualifier win (+500)

Charles Leclerc has also had his fair share of success in Austria. He comes into this weekend as the reigning Austrian Grand Prix champion, and he had placed second in two of the previous three. That includes a second-place finish from the seven spot on the grid in 2020 and a narrow loss to Max in 2019 after winning the qualifying round.

Additionally, Ferrari had specifically had some mishaps (go figure) when it came to tire strategy in relation to precipitation in the last race's qualifying round. If any team's management should be well-equipped for Saturday's projected rain, it should be Ferrari.

Lean: Bet before qualifying

Winning margin >10  seconds (-200)

Another way to attack Verstappen's dominance in Austria is by hitting the winning margin prop. He lost to Leclerc last year, but in 2021 he beat second-place finisher Bottas by 17.973 seconds. Leclerc has been the only real threat to Verstappen over the years, but Leclerc has not been the same driver this year, so expecting him to be competitive on Sunday would be a fool's errand.

In Verstappen’s last three races, he’s won by 9.570 (Canada), 24.090 (Spain), and 27.921 seconds (Monaco), demonstrating the growing distance he has placed between himself and the rest of the grid.

Much like the bet on Verstappen to win, however, it may be best to wait for some high-variance results to come in with Saturday's forecast.

Lean: Bet after qualifying

Understanding F1 betting odds

The most popular way to bet on Formula 1 odds is by simply picking the winner of a particular race. Other popular F1 betting options include which car/constructor will win and whether or not a particular race car driver will end up on the podium with a Top-3 finish.

F1 race odds usually look like this:

  • Sergio Perez +1,400

This means that on a $100 bet, you'll stand to profit $1,400 if Perez wins that particular race. If one driver is especially dominant, you might see a minus sign (-) ahead of that driver's odds like this:

  • Max Verstappen -120

This means that you would need to bet $120 to win $100 on Verstappen winning the race.
