Fans want ITV to make major change to Rugby World Cup coverage after brutally comparing it to 'General Election Debate'

FANS want ITV to make a major change to their coverage of the Rugby World Cup.

Former Welsh stars Gareth Thomas, Sam Warburton and Jamie Roberts joined host Mark Pougatch for the coverage of the group stage match between Wales and Fiji.

However viewers criticised the broadcaster as it had pundits standing behind lecterns during coverage, which was compared to a "General Election debate".

Fans flocked to social media to complain about the set design.

One tweeted: "The most ridiculous TV set I’ve ever seen."

A second commented: "Can someone apologise for the set?"

After calls from the public on , ITV appeared to ditch the lecterns for half time and instead had the pundits sitting around a table.

This gave off a much more natural environment while the pundits spoke about Wales' performance.

And viewers were thrilled that the complaints were thought to be listened to as they reacted to the change on social media.

One wrote: "Common sense has prevailed. They all looked like they were in the midst of a leadership contest debate."

A second said: "They’re listening, which is good!"

While another added: "Free to air too, so another huge bonus! Match comms teams are decent."

However, one viewer was not convinced as they declared: "The lecterns will be back. Just wait."

And they proved to be right, as after full time as the pundits analyzed Wales' 32-26 victory over Fiji, they returned to the lecterns.

Viewers will be hoping that the lecterns will remain off the set for the next edition of the tournament.
