Formula for Success: Will Red Bull Win Every F1 Race?

Having looked nothing short of dominant in the 2023 F1 season thus far, Red Bull is the F1 Constructors Championship odds heavy favorite to capture the constructors’ championship at -2500. Even Mercedes’s George Russell quipped: “They should win every single race.” Red Bull already holds a 58-point lead over Aston Martin and is favored to win the next race in Azerbaijan.

With that said, can the constructor pull off another legendary feat by becoming the first to win every single race in a season?

Red Bull all but dominated last season as it captured the constructors’ championship with a 205-point gap over Ferrari. But as peerless as the team was, it “only” won 77.3% of its races. This would rank it as the 10th-best season in F1 history going by this metric.

Looking at the past, only seven teams have won over 80% of its races, and only two have won 90%: McLaren in 1988 and Mercedes in 2016. These legendary seasons stand the closest to a perfect season in F1 lore.

Most F1 bettors had McLaren and Mercedes as runaway favorites. The former won 15 of its 16 races as the superstar duo of Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost was too hard to overcome. Monza, the 12th race of the calendar, was the only track they failed to conquer, as Senna and Prost retired.

And 28 years later, Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg also came close to sweeping the calendar. They won 19 of 21 races (a record), failing to win only the Spanish Grand Prix (both retired) and the Malaysian Grand Prix. Red Bull, ironically, was the team that won both. Verstappen won his first F1 race in Cataluna, making him a hot bet online. How have times changed since?

The Question Is: Why Can’t Red Bull Do It?

Judging by the last three races, it is tough to go against Red Bull. Their F1 lines only keep getting shorter as Verstappen and Sergio Perez seem unchallenged, especially when they get good qualifying results. But bettors should not be so quick to crown Red Bull unbeatable. After all, two of the greatest pairings in F1 history failed to sweep their seasons. So anything can happen here.

There is always the threat of a collision or issues with the car. Red Bull appeared to have braking issues during the Australian Grand Prix. Perez failed to set a qualifying time and had to start the race from the pit lane. He ultimately finished fifth.

As for Verstappen, he’s proven time and again that even at a “disadvantaged” position to start the race, he will find a way to get to the front. The sportsbook will always have Verstappen as the favorite to win any race, with Perez behind him.

Who Is Red Bull’s Biggest Challenger?

It’s also possible for Aston Martin, Mercedes, and even Ferrari to improve as the season progresses. Aston Martin has been a distant runner-up at best. But Alonso managed to lead in some spots. If he manages to get pole position, he may just win a race, given how similar Aston Martin’s “new” car is to the old Red Bull, according to Perez.

“It’s nice to see three Red Bull guys on the podium,” Perez said at Bahrain’s post-race press conference, to which Verstappen laughed out loud.

George Russell has also shown promise with Mercedes. He might have even won the race had his car not suffered an engine failure. He’s currently at 25-1 on the Las Vegas F1 Constructors Championship odds to win at Baku. But he’s shown to be Mercedes’s 1A to Hamilton’s 1B.

As for Ferrari, they are long shots at best. Winning a race would be akin to winning the title, given how disastrous of a start it has been, especially for Charles Leclerc. He’s now at 22-1 to win at Baku, his worst odds to win a race in the last two seasons.

Still, if Ferrari can fix its issues, the man is arguably just as good of a driver as Verstappen. Don’t count him out entirely.
