Giancarlo Stanton photo sparks Jonathan Papelbon $1M bet taunt

Ex-Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon wants a piece of Giancarlo Stanton.

“Hey @stoolpresidente [Dave Portnoy] I’m putting a million dollar bet on the under of total HR’s for Mike (Giancarlo) Stanton when the 2024 season starts. You in?? #EasyMoney,” Papelbon said in a post on X accompanied by a picture of Stanton looking lean in a black tank top.

Giancarlo Stanton appears leaner in the picture that Papelbon posted, which The Post’s Greg Joyce reported is the offseason plan for Stanton.

“I think you’re going to see a leaner Giancarlo – he’s always in great shape, but being at this point in his career, being a little lighter is gonna be something that serves him well,” Aaron Boone said at the winter meetings.

The hope is that the Yankees slugger, who struggled throughout the 2023 season, will be more athletic on the base paths and stay healthy for an entire season.

Stanton played in 101 games last season, but hit a career low .191 to accompany his 24 homers.

His home run prop has not been released by any sportsbooks as we are still only in January.

However, Caesars Sportsbook has Stanton at 75/1 to lead the major leagues in home runs, the 18th-best odds among all hitters.

BetMGM Sportsbook told The Post that Stanton’s preseason home run prop sat at 29.5 last year. Expect it to be at a similar spot when released this year.

Papelbon might want in on some of the $1.5 million that the Barstool founder cashed in on during the College Football Playoff, which Portnoy detailed as part of the best start of a year he’s ever had.

Bet365 Sportsbook has Aaron Judge’s home run total prop at an absurd 47.5 (-110), the clear favorite to lead the league in home runs.

That mark is substantially higher than the next highest total; Shohei Ohtani’s is 39.5.
