Golf Legend Tips Brooks Koepka to Win the Open

Golf Care ambassador and three-time Ryder Cup captain Bernard Gallacher has predicted that Brooks Koepka will win the 151 Open Championship. Gallacher feels Koepka will continue his success after winning at Oak Hill to claim the title.

A Serial Major Winner

If Brooks wins the Open, it would be his sixth major title, a big accomplishment for the golfer. Gallacher is a veteran, having won ten times during the European Tour, and has insight as a seasoned player. His greatest accomplishment came during the Open in 1973 when he experienced his best finish. The pro says that one could call Koepka a ‘serial major winner.’

His most recent win came during the USPGA Championship at Oak Hill, and Gallacher commented on how he won on the difficult course. According to the veteran, he is a fantastic ball driver and plays well under pressure, making him a favorite for the open.

And he certainly is a favorite. Like Gallacher, online sportsbooks are hedging their bets on Koepka to win the Open, with major odds in his favor. FanDuel Sportsbook is just one example where one can find good odds on the pro to win the upcoming event.

Historic Win during Oak Hill

His latest triumph is a major addition to his portfolio of wins. Koepka now joins players such as Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus in winning three PGA titles during the stroke play era. Koepka beat Scottie Scheffler and Viktor Hovland during the event, both having tied for second place. He is now the 20 player ever to win five major championships.

The title also was a history-making win as Koepka is the first player from the Greg Norman tour to win a major. He plays for the Saudi Arabian-backed LIV Golf League, which has never been able to claim a major championship title.

Rory Mcllroy Also Has a Shot At Victory

Gallacher also feels Rory Mcllroy is a good contender for the Royal Liverpool win. The spot is where the Irishman earned his last major, and there is a chance he will win again. Rory won in Liverpool in 2014, and Gallacher feels it is only a matter of time before he wins again.

He did experience a disappointing Masters early in 2023 but bounced back during the USPGA with a T7 at Oak Hill. He also finished in the runner-up position during the US Open. Gallacher said if he were a betting man, he would place a small wager on Rory to win as he did in 2014.

Additional Favorites

Gallacher also pointed out other favorites that might claim the prize. Scottie Scheffler and John Rahm are the first and second-ranked players in the world of golf and should be considered as major contenders. The reigning champion of the Masters has no weaknesses, according to Gallacher, and was able to tie for third during the Royal St. George.

The veteran player expects Scheffler to be determined to follow in the footsteps of Seve Ballesteros, his hero, to try and win an open. Gallacher also feels that Cameron Smith of LIV and Dustin Johnson have a shot at victory.

Also mentioned were Tommy Fleetwood and Tyrrell Hatton. It might not be this year, but Gallacher feels these pros will also eventually claim a win.
