Joe Lycett and Amelia Dimoldenberg are the early frontrunners to replace Matt Lucas on The Great British Bake Off, according to Ladbrokes.

The Little Britain star, 48, told fans it was 'clear he couldn't continue' with the role due to his other filming commitments yesterday - sending fans into a frenzy.

As it stands, host Noel Fielding will be back with judges Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood in the tent next year, but who will be joining them?

The current favourite to present the show is comedian Joe Lycett with odds of 7/2.

Joe, 34, was praised following his appearance on the programme in 2018 as he attempted to impress Paul and Prue with his array of bakes, including an amazing cake of himself in a bubble bath surrounded by champagne.

The comedian had viewers in stitches thanks to his "sweaty bottom" puns, telling Paul: "A sweaty bottom, classic me really," before offering a mock apology.

Also in the running to front the show is YouTube sensation Amelia Dimoldenberg with odds of 5/1.

The social media star created the web series Chicken Shop Date, in which she interviews rappers, grime artists as well as other YouTubers and Premier League footballers in fried chicken restaurants.

Speaking about her chances to present Bake Off, Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “Matt Lucas was the cherry on the Bake Off cake and it's certainly going to take a big personality to replace him.

" Channel 4 chiefs have got a huge decision to make when it comes to Matt Lucas' replacement, and the early odds suggest it could be a toss-up between Joe Lycett and Amelia Dimoldenberg."

Of course, the broadcaster may choose a previous contestant to host the show.

Nadiya Hussain, who won the trophy in 2015, has odds of 4/1.

The talented baker has gone onto forge a successful presenting career and would be a big hit with viewers.

Also in the running to bag the gig is Strictly's Ellie Taylor with odds of 6/1, I'm A Celeb's Seann Walsh - 12/1 and Radio 2 presenter Rylan with odds of 20/1.

Fans were stunned yesterday when Matt announced he was stepping down from the show after three years.

Taking to , he wrote: " Farewell Bake Off! It's been a delicious experience and I can't imagine a more fun way of spending my summers. But it's become clear to me that I can't present both Fantasy Football League and Bake Off alongside all my other projects," he wrote on.

"So, after three series and 51 episodes, I am cheerfully passing the baguette on to someone else."

He added: "I would like to give my warmest thanks and gratitude to everyone at Love Productions and Channel 4 and to Noelipops, Paul, Dame Prue, the crew and, of course, the wonderful bakers for welcoming me into the tent.

"I wish whoever takes over the very best and I can't wait to tune into the next series without already knowing who won!"
