ITV Friday at York gets under way here with a handicap over a mile and a half. CAPITAL THEORY has been banging his head against the wall since scoring at Chelmsford a few runs ago and has been beaten off a mark of 88 on his last four starts. That said, he’s been running well in defeat and stays this trip in style. He’s dropped 2lb now to 86, his Chelmsford winning mark, and should have an each-way chance for Charlie Johnston, Dr Jim Walker and Andrea Atzeni who is riding out of his skin.

A Group 2 in the Lonsdale Cup over an extended two miles. Surely they won’t let Quickthorn get away again like at Goodwood? I’m keeping the faith with COLTRANE, who was third at the Sussex venue in the Goodwood Cup and chased home Courage Mon Ami in the Ascot Gold Cup. The Sagaro winner is a very solid performer and was second to Quickthorn in this last year. He was rated 113 then and is now 117 suggesting improvement. Oisin Murphy is on top at usual.

Another Group 2 this time for juveniles in the Gimcrack over six furlongs. JOHANNES BRAHMS has not been seen since Royal Ascot when he chased home Big Evs in the Windsor Castle Stakes. The son of Siyouni stayed on well that day suggesting this extra furlong will be ideal and he should go very close under Ryan Moore for Aidan O’Brien.

The big race of the day in the Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes over five furlongs. On all we know this is a much between HIGHFIELD PRINCESS and Bradsell and I see no reason why last year’s heroine won’t go in again. There was a length between the pair with the latter defeated my selection in the King’s Stand at Royal Ascot but Highfield Princess was a little unlucky and can easily reverse that form on a course she loves. She was brilliant at Glorious Goodwood and is a credit to John Quinn and jockey Jason Hart.

A handicap over an extended mile and a quarter. YOUNGEST was a bit of an eye-catcher at Glorious Goodwood when a few places behind Rawayeh who was third to Choisya. The Roger Varian runner was never placed to challenge on that occasion but ran like a horse who would enjoy stepping up two furlongs in distance which happens today. Hollie Doyle is on top riding at just 8st 4lb and they might well have a decent each-way chance.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
