Horse racing tips: Wednesday picks from Dave Nevison

Our pundit and resident websaite tipster Dave Nevison has pinpointed three handicappers that warrant a closer look at Catterick and Sandown on Wednesday. Enjoy more Flat action from Leicester as well as a strong card at Naas live on Racing TV.

There are several Catterick regulars running in this race that are very closely handicapped on their recent clashes, and it may be worth siding with a different recent form line.

Woodlands Charm won at Catterick in July last year, her final win of last season, and she now finds herself on a rating 4lb below the mark she won off that day.

She also won twice in early August of 2021, so is clearly at her best in the summer. It is also interesting that Nigel Tinkler has upped her to 7f for the first time here, which I am hoping is a good move.

Her full sister, Overcoming, won over 7f and was rated much higher than Woodlands Charm, so it must be possible she could improve for this trip, especially as she usually comes form off the pace.

Rider Alex Jary rode a Saturday winner at York for his boss recently and his 7lb claim looks useful.

Olympicus shaped like a horse that Mick Appleby might get a few wins out of last time out on his second start for the trainer.

He was a 50-1 chance having run a disappointing race on his first start for 320 days in June, but belied those odds when beaten less than three lengths finishing fifth at Doncaster.

That performance equalled his best run for Joseph O’Brien in Ireland and this extremely well-bred four-year-old could be poised to show some sort of form now, while his pedigree suggests he should be a lot better than what he has achieved so far.

The Appleby team are in excellent form and Freddie Larson is certainly one of the best apprentice riders in this field.

Appeared to go really well over this trip in a 0-105 handicap at York last year and it is slightly surprising she has not been tried over this distance in three runs so far this season.

She could be an interesting runner here as she seeks her first victory since scoring on her handicap debubt at Lingfield last season off a rating of 78.

She has dropped 6lb over recent runs and is now only 2lb higher than that win, so has plenty going for her if she reproduces the form she showed on the Knavesmire.

There are certainly no worries about the form of her trainer, Andrew Balding, and rider, Oisin Murphy.
