Imagining the 12-Team Playoff after the First CFP Rankings of 2022
The first College Football Playoff rankings of the year were announced Tuesday evening. Tennessee Volunteers are the highest-ranked team. Ohio State, Georgia and Clemson are ranked second, while the other teams are in the bottom three. The CFP is expanding to 12 teams in 2026. The parameters of a 12-team playoff are that the four highest ranked conference champions would receive a first-round bye, the top-five teams from the Group of Five would get an automatic bid and the others would be at-large.
