Inside the Diamondbacks Awards for the 2022 Season

The Arizona Diamondbacks have finished the season. The awards for the 2022 season are the Most Valuable Player, Best Hitter, best Pitcher, Rookie of the Year, and best Reliever.

Zac Gallen was named the team MVP and Pitcher of the Year for the 2022 season. He went 12-4 with a 2.54 ERA and 192/47 strikeouts to walk ratio in 184 innings. The campaign also included a franchise-record 44.1 consecutive innings scoreless streak.

Christian Walker was named the most improved player and hitter of the year. He set career bests in home runs (36), runs batted in (94), strikeout rate (19.6%) and park-adjusted statistics such as wRC+ (122), OPS+ and Outs Above Average (126). He is the favorite to win the Gold Glove Award at first base.

Jake McCarthy was named the Rookie of the Year for the 2022 season. He batted .283/.342/.427 with 10 home runs and 23 stolen bases in 99 games. McCarthy is a right-handed hitter who can play both right and left-handers equally.

Joe Mantiply was the Diamondbacks' best player. He was an All-Star and the only representative from Arizona. His ERA was 2.85, but he had a high ground ball rate of 53.5% and a swing-and-miss on his secondary stuff.

Corbin Carroll was named the position player prospect of the year. He played in Double-A Amarillo and was called up to the big leagues for the final five weeks of season. Carroll missed most of 2021 season due to shoulder surgery. In his first season in the majors, he batted .260/.330/.500 in 21 games with Arizona.

Brandon Pfaadt was named the Pitcher Prospect of the Year for the Arizona Diamondbacks system. He pitched to a 3.83 ERA and a 218/33 strikeout to walk ratio in 167 innings in the minors. PFAadts has the potential for three plus pitches between his fastball, slider and changeup.
