Jaguars vs. Colts odds, expert picks: Anthony Richardson makes his Colts debut

The Jacksonville Jaguars haven’t won at the Indianapolis Colts since 2017, when Blake Bortles was the starting quarterback. After winning their first division title since 2017, the Jags look to begin their 2023 season with a win against their AFC South rivals.

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The matchup will be broadcast on FOX.

The Jaguars enter this matchup with abundant momentum, on the heels of their first postseason appearance in five seasons and a come-from-behind win against the Chargers in the Wild Card round. But now, they’ve got to deal with high expectations. As usual, the spotlight will shine primarily on the face of the franchise quarterback, Trevor Lawrence, who’s primed to take another leap forward and enter the league’s upper echelon. He’ll get some additional help this go-around, with the explosive and veteran wide receiver Calvin Ridley added to Jacksonville’s collection of offensive weapons.

Meanwhile, Indianapolis has no momentum or expectation, and the national outlook on the Colts isn’t optimistic, especially now that star running back Jonathan Taylor won’t play for the first four weeks after being placed on the PUP list. The Colts haven’t opened the regular season with a win since 2013. First-time head coach Shane Steichen moves over from Philadelphia to try to turn the Colts’ fortunes around, and rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson gets his first start after being drafted No. 4 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft out of Florida.
