Josh Giddey is confident in Chet Holmgren’s Rookie of the Year chances
Depending who you ask, the 2024 NBA Rookie of the Year race is either going to be one of the most contested battles in recent memory or it’s going to be won in a landslide.
But while some people believe players like Scoot Henderson and Chet Holmgren have a chance to win the award, there’s no denying Victor Wembanyama is the clear front runner. Wembanyama’s odds to win are -135 at FanDuel, with Henderson a distant second at +320 and Holmgren even further back at +550.
If you ask Holmgren’s Oklahoma City Thunder teammate Josh Giddey, that’s great value on last year’s No. 2 overall pick. Because Giddey is giving Holmgren a really good chance to win the award and revealed his feelings in the slickest way possible.
“My phones fully charged,” Giddey said in response to a tweet that said your phone battery percentage is equal to the odds of Holmgren winning.
For those keeping count at home, a fully charged phone gives Holmgren a 100 percent chance to win. That’s as close to a guarantee as you can get. And Giddey has seen enough to inspire that confidence after playing with Holmgren in last year’s Summer League before the 2022 No. 2 pick suffered his season-wrecking injury.
Holmgren’s entrance into the NBA a year earlier than the other rookies, and his time already spent in the league, gives him a leg up. Regardless, Wembanyama won’t be easy to beat. It’ll be a fun race to track.
