Kana Watanabe vs Veta Arteaga

Location of the game: Saitama Super Arena, Saitama, Japan.

Date and Time: Saturday, July 29. 11:00 PM ET main card start

How to Watch: Showtime

Watanabe is looking to bounce back from a narrow split decision loss to Ilima-Lei Macfarlane in April at Bellator 295.

Arteaga also fought on the Bellator 295 card, losing a unanimous decision to Sumiko Inaba.

Watanabe is a Japanese mixed martial artist with a background in Judo. She is 34 years old and stands at 5’6” with a 66” reach. She fights out of Tokyo, Japan, and will be welcomed by a great Japanese crowd.

Her professional MMA record is currently 11-2-1, with seven finishes. She is 3-2 in her last five fights and has a great opportunity to get back to winning ways in front of her home country.

Arteaga is a 7-5 professional MMA fighter with only three finishes in her career at 35 years old. She will have a slight size disadvantage this weekend standing in at only 5’4”. She is a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-JItsu from her gym in Idaho.

No injuries have been reported to Bellator MMA or Rizin in this bout.

This Bellator vs. Rizin card still doesn’t have too many odds available anywhere outside of the money lines. After the Watanabe vs Arteaga betting analysis, we will need to choose which betting line to make a bet on.

Watanabe is the big betting favorite, with the best odds you can get her for is -335, although she is going as high as -833 at some sportsbooks. Arteaga is the big underdog at around +300, depending on what sportsbook you look at.

The over 2.5-round total is heavily favored at -240 odds, meaning that there isn’t much of a chance at an early-round stoppage by either fighter.

From the technical aspect of this fight, it’s pretty clear that the stronger and more physical fighter is Watanabe. She has very good Judo skills and will always look to use that to her advantage in her fights. Arteaga tends to be okay with getting taken down because she is solid off her back, but this isn’t the opponent to let that happen with.

Another big advantage that Watanabe has is fighting in Japan in a ring where she has experience training and being around that style of MMA for a lot longer than Arteaga. The culture shock of fight week and the actual fight will be a lot for Arteaga.

Those are examples of things you need to look at when you bet on MMA. This sport is so unpredictable and wild that you have to think deeper than what you see on paper.

With this being one of the most interesting events on the MMA schedule, it’s a must-watch. These events give off a lot of old PRIDE FC vibes, and that is the golden age of MMA.

After breaking down the Watanabe vs Arteaga betting analysis and previewing the betting lines, it’s time for the official betting pick.

  • In this matchup, it wouldn’t be smart to go with any other pick than one in Watanabe’s favor.

She is going to be the much stronger fighter with great Judo tosses and trips to control the fight on the ground. Arteaga is competent enough that she can still defend herself from submissions, but it’s most likely going to be a frustrating night from her back.
