The Cincinnati Reds and the Kansas City Royals meet Tuesday in MLB action from Kauffman Stadium. This will be the second installment in a three-game series. In the Monday opener, the Reds eked out a victory. Check back all season long for free MLB picks at Sports Chat Place.

Cincinnati Reds

The Reds took on the Cardinals over the weekend, winning two of the three games. On Monday versus Kansas City, Cincinnati came back from an early 3-0 deficit and pulled off the win 5-4. Starter Luke Weaver gave up three in 4.2 innings on five hits and four walks.

It’ll be Brandon Williamson in the starting role for the Reds on Tuesday. In his five starts without a decision so far (the first five of his career) Williamson has a 5.40 ERA and 21 Ks in 26.2 innings of work.

Kansas City Royals

Over on the Kansas City side, they lost in a three-game sweep to the Orioles in their last set. In the Monday game the Royals found some late life in the ninth but couldn’t quite finish it off. Zack Greinke lasted 5.0 innings in the starting role with three earned on six hits.

Jordan Lyles will take the mound for the Royals on Tuesday. Over his 13 starts this year Lyles is 0-10 with a 6.84 ERA and 55 strikeouts over 73.2 innings. Lyles is 66-10 with a 5.19 ERA in 334 career games (227 starts).

The Reds are 6-1 in their last seven Tuesday games and 4-1 in their last five in game two of a series. Cincinnati is 3-7 in their last 10 versus the AL Central.

Meanwhile, the Royals are 1-4 in their last five versus a lefty starter and 7-23 in their last 30 Tuesday games. KC is 15-41 in their last 56 overall.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’m going to take a stab on the Royals here. Probably not going near it, though; both starters have been choppy lately. Lyles specifically is having a rough year to be sure, but he’s getting fairly deep into games. He’s got 11 earned over his last three starts but Lyles has gone 17.0 innings during that stretch. On Monday Kansas City got off to a good start but were ineffective for most of the later innings. The Royals got a pretty good pen performance overall though, and if they can replicate that in game two they’ll have a shot at a win.
