St. Louis Cardinals

St. Louis lost to the Dodgers 5-0 on Friday but won Thursday 16-8 and Saturday 6-5. In the Sunday finale the Cardinals scored three runs in three different innings during a 10-5 victory. Starting pitcher Jack Flaherty lasted 4.2 innings with three earned on four hits and four walks.

For the starter job in the Monday game the Cardinals will go with Jordan Montgomery. In his nine starts this year Montgomery is 2-6 with a 4.21 ERA and 48 Ks in 51.1 innings. Montgomery is 30-29 with a 3.88 ERA in 118 career games (117 starts).

Cincinnati Reds

Over on the Cincinnati side, they lost to the Yankees 6-2 Friday and 7-4 in game two. On Sunday the Reds were up early but couldn’t score after the first in a 4-1 loss. Starter Hunter Greene finished with four earned on four hits and three walks in 7.0 innings.

It’ll be Brandon Williamson in the start for the Reds on Monday. In his lone start this year (the first of his MLB career) Williamson put up 5.2 innings with six Ks, two hits, two walks and one earned in a no-decision.

The Cardinals are 4-0 in their last four in game one of a series and 42-18 in their last 60 versus a lefty starter. St. Louis is 2-6 in their last eight Monday games.

Meanwhile, the Reds are 4-9 in their last 13 Monday games and 8-25 in their last 33 versus the NL Central. The over is 5-1 in Cincinnati’s last six Monday games.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll probably lean toward the Cardinals in this one. The line's too thick to mess with, though. Montgomery has been a bit choppy over his last three starts with 11 earned in 16.1 innings. He’s also 0-2 in that time. That said, if Montgomery can give St. Louis a quality start here the team should be in great shape. In the Sunday matchup the Cardinals posted 12 team hits in another strong offensive display. If St. Louis can keep some of that mojo going here they should be in great shape for a potential W.
