Kentucky Oaks Results & Betting Payouts 2022

Heading into the Kentucky Oaks we had a plethora of fillies in the hunt to take out the race. We didn't have the build up of of say Gamine and Swiss Skydiver but we had plenty of intrigue.

My colleague JN Campbell gave the favorite, Nest, a A+ grade in his guide to the race, earlier this week. Todd Pletcher trained the three-year-old and she moved from her 5-2 Morning Line price to 2-1 when they reached the starting gate. Echo Zulu had questions about the two-turn distance, but was still the second choice going in whilst both Kathleen O. and Secret Oath settled at 4-1 with the latter seeing significant money coming off a disappointing run against the boys in the Arkansas Derby. Our editor was on Secret Oath with our turfwriter going for Nest.

With showers popping up around Churchill Downs, the slicker track was throwing up the potential to cause a bit of a surprise and going in the weather was being talked about but as they came to post - the clouds and drama were building but it was not raining.

Echo Zulu and Yuugiri went straight to the front as expected with the other top choices in the markets sitting back in the pack. Secret Oath and Echo Zulu were the two going at it down the stretch and Secret Oath went clear and the superstar for D. Wayne Lukas who was talked about as a Derby contender who soared to victory and there is no doubt she was the best filly in the field. This was the legendary trainers fifth win in the race.

It was a glorious win and without a doubt a fantastic result. Could she now consider the Preakness or the Belmont? Who knows but if she did then she would be a legitimate contender.

Nest was second with Desert Dawn third, so our team had the 1-2.

Secret Oath: Win - $10.80 - Place - $5.60 - Show - $4.60

Nest: Place - $4.20 - Show - $3.20

Desert Dawn: Show - $15.40
