Kirk Herbstreit drops latest top 4, includes superlatives for pair of B1G teams

Kirk Herbstreit is back with his latest top 4 teams coming out of Week 9. With the first edition of the College Football Playoff rankings due out Tuesday, Herbstreit included a bit extra to his list.

This time, Herbstreit provided a brief superlative and rationale for his rankings. At the top of his list, Herbstreit had Michigan as “1A” and Georgia as “1B” ahead of the first CFP rankings. The Wolverines drew the label of “most consistent” while the Bulldogs are “best they’ve looked all year” after a win over Florida.

As for Ohio State, Herbstreit slotted the Buckeyes No. 3. The superlative for the Buckeyes was “impressive resume and defense.” It is not the type of football fans are accustomed to in Columbus, but the formula is currently working for Ryan Day.

Florida State landed at No. 4 while Herbstreit pointed to a loss by Oklahoma in Week 9 as something that will help Mike Norvell’s squad. Washington and Oregon were the first two teams outside of Herbstreit’s top 4.

Heading into Week 10, Michigan is still the betting favorite by a slim margin in the national championship odds. The Wolverines lead Georgia by a slim margin and are followed by Florida State and Ohio State.
