Luton vs Tottenham predictions: Spurs to show scoring class

- Tottenham have scored at least twice in every league outing this season
- Despite a kind fixture list, Luton have taken just four points from seven league games
- Recommended bet: Tottenham and over 3.5 goals

Whatever the controversy surrounding the result, Tottenham’s victory over Liverpool last weekend confirmed their upward trajectory under Ange Postecoglou.

That made it five wins and two draws from seven Premier League outings and Spurs fans are justified in getting excited.

Victory over Manchester United might carry an asterisk due to United’s poor form, but a point gained at Arsenal — where Tottenham have won only once in 30 years — and beating a Liverpool side who had won nine and drawn three of the previous 12 meetings show things are changing.

Luton also had reason for optimism last weekend, with supporters hoping that their victory away at Everton would belatedly spark the team into a successful survival effort.

However, it quickly came crashing down with Tuesday’s home defeat to fellow strugglers Burnley and now Rob Edwards' men must pick themselves up to face one of the most in-form teams in the country.

Tottenham winger Brennan Johnson is a serious doubt due to a hamstring strain.

Attackers Giovani Lo Celso (thigh) and Bryan Gil (groin) hope to return after the international break but midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur and full-back Ryan Sessegnon are not expected back until the end of November.

Winger Ivan Perisic is likely out for the season with an ACL injury.

Luton full-back Amari’i Bell could return from a knock this weekend but fellow defenders Gabriel Osho (knee) and Dan Potts (ankle) are not expected back until after the international break, and nor is winger Jordan Clark.

Midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga has been ruled out for two months after picking up a thigh injury last week.

Tottenham have scored at least twice in all seven league games this season, netting five in their away trip to Burnley.

However, Postecoglou’s men have kept just two clean sheets, conceding twice in three of their four league away games.

Luton have yet to keep a clean sheet in the Premier League, conceding an average of exactly two goals per game.

Edward’s side have found little home comfort at Kenilworth Road, either, claiming just one point in front of their own fans after drawing 1-1 with Wolves but losing 2-1 to both West Ham and Burnley.

Tottenham are flying, with positivity radiating from the dugout to the stands and the players revelling in Postecoglou’s attacking approach.

They remain far from the finished article, however, and the need for a last-minute winner against both Sheffield United and Liverpool in their last two home games demonstrate that Spurs are not going to overwhelm every opponent.

Moreover, their attacking focus will often leave them vulnerable defensively, with even bottom-of-the-table Sheffield United scoring against Spurs.

Luton will hope that they, too, can find a way through Tottenham’s exposed rearguard but whether they can withstand the onslaught at the other end is doubtful.

The Hatters have found the step up to the Premier League a massive test and while Edwards’ team has the set-piece threat to give Spurs visitors a fright, they do not have the quality to match them in open play.
