Burnley backed into a corner

City are in ominous form, having won their previous seven matches in all competition and racked up 21 goals and five clean sheets in the process. They go into this match five points adrift of Liverpool, who face Chelsea at Anfield tonight, but with a game in hand on the Merseyside club.

Burnley manager Vincent Kompany faces a daunting test at his old stamping ground, with his side in desperate need of three points and winless in four games in all competitions.

Worryingly for the Clarets and City’s rivals in the title race, the champions’ best players are returning to full fitness at the perfect time.

It would be a huge surprise if Burnley try to take on City at their own game so, with the hosts likely to dominate possession and territory, our first bet focuses on the market for corners.

City have forced 141 corners this season – only Arsenal have had more – and the count for their last five Premier League home games reads 12-9-10-6-12. Surprisingly, given they are only one place off the foot of the table, Burnley are eighth in this category, so we’re backing a dozen or more in total.

Manchester City vs Burnley tip 1: Over 11.5 corners @ 31/20 with Sky Bet

Burnley to keep it respectable

Burnley are the second-lowest scorers in the division this season with 21 goals – exactly half the number they have conceded.

But with City facing seven matches in February, Pep Guardiola may relegate one or two of his main match-winners to the bench for a match his side are expected to win comfortably.

City won the reverse fixture 3-0 on the opening day of the season but have not exceeded three goals in any of their past eight league matches, so we’re backing them to win to nil by three goals or fewer.

Manchester City vs Burnley tip 2: Manchester City to win 1-0, 2-0, or 3-0 @ 8/5 with Sky Bet

Alvarez spearheads bet builder

Guardiola is never one to rush his injured players back to fitness, so Julian Alvarez should once again lead the line while Erling Haaland is eased back.

The Argentina forward has scored in four of City’s previous six matches and another goal from him is the first leg of our bet builder.

Phil Foden is another who has capitalised on City’s injuries, playing in central midfield and taking full advantage of the opportunities that has afforded him. We’re backing him to score or set up a goal.

City have led at half-time in all nine of their Premier League home matches this season, and we expect them to do so again here, while Burnley’s expected efforts to keep them in check make three or more cards a confident fourth and final choice in our bet builder.

Manchester City vs Burnley tip 3: Bet builder - Julian Alvarez any-time scorer, Phil Foden to score or assist, City half-time result, over 2.5 cards @ 4/1 with Sky Bet
