Mavericks vs Hornets Prediction

The Dallas Mavericks and the Charlotte Hornets duke it out at the Spectrum Center on Sunday afternoon.

The Dallas Mavericks have been in poor form as they’ve lost six of their last eight games overall and they will be hoping to snap a three-game skid after getting beaten by the Hornets in a 117-109 loss on Friday. Luka Doncic led the team with 34 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists, Kyrie Irving added 18 points with nine rebounds and seven assists while Dwight Powell and Christian Wood scored 14 points apiece. As a team, the Mavericks shot 48 percent from the field and nine of 36 from the 3-point line as they got off to a terrible start and leaked 69 points in the first half to fall behind by 21 points which just left them too much ground to make up in the second half.

Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets have been in decent shape as they’ve won two of their last three games and they will be looking to keep it going after sneaking past the Mavericks on Friday. PJ Washington led the team with 28 points on 11 of 22 shooting, Gordon Hayward added 25 points with nine assists on nine of 15 shooting, while Dennis Smith Jr and Svi Mykhailiuk each scored 13 points. As a team, the Hornets shot 48 percent from the field and 11 of 28 from the 3-point line as they set the tone with 37 points in the first quarter to storm out to an early 23-point lead which was more than enough of a cushion to hold off the stumbling Mavericks on Friday.

Looking at the betting trends, the Mavericks are 0-5 ATS in their last five Sunday games, 7-22-1 ATS in their last 30 games against a team with a losing record and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games overall. The Hornets are 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games, 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games following a win and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 Sunday games.

Head to head, the under is 4-1 in the last five meetings overall and the Mavericks are 13-3 ATS in the last 16 meetings in Charlotte.

The Mavericks should be back to full health as Tim Hardaway Jr is listed as probable for this one, while the Hornets are still missing LaMelo Ball. The Mavericks haven’t been able to build any momentum lately despite getting all their troops back and they will be low on confidence after getting beaten by the lowly Hornets on Friday. It’s always tough to beat the same team twice in a row, so while the Hornets should be dangerous again, I’ll lean towards the Mavericks who are 13-3 ATS in the last 16 meetings in Charlotte.
