Melbourne Cup runner-up ready to peak this Spring

Mike Moroney has set high goals for his horses this spring, especially for Emissary, who finished runner-up in last year’s Melbourne Cup.

The stayer appears to have returned in good order, as evidenced by his recent impressive performances at Flemington jumpouts, including one over 1200m.

Although late to mature, Emissary is now thought to be nearing his peak, setting the stage for an ambitious spring campaign.

Moroney also has another contender in Alenquer, an imported horse that has recently been gelded.

Alenquer failed to impress in two previous races but has shown substantial improvement during a recent jumpout.

The gelding process seems to have positively impacted his performance, giving hope for his racing career ahead.

Despite receiving offers to turn him into a stud, the decision was to continue racing him.

Both Emissary and Alenquer are expected to be strong competitors in the upcoming spring races.
