Mets vs. Nationals prediction: MLB odds, picks, best bets

It’s a light slate of MLB games on Thursday but one matchup piquing my interest is the Nationals facing the Mets.

Things haven’t gone according to plan for the Amazin’s this season.

But with just under two months left before the playoffs, the Mets are still in striking distance of a wild-card spot.

Taking the ball for the Mets on Thursday will be Kodai Senga (7-5, 3.27 ERA).

Senga has pitched well this season but hasn’t gotten much run support.

Mets vs. Nationals pick

In his past 10 starts, the Mets have averaged just 2.7 runs.

Despite allowing three runs or fewer seven times in those 10 outings, the Mets have gone just 4-6 over that span.

Washington counters with Josiah Gray (7-8, 3.45 ERA).

The young right-hander has pitched better than his 7-8 records indicates.

But like Senga, Gray hasn’t received much help from his offense.

Gray has allowed three runs or fewer in 16 of 21 starts this season, so he has kept his team in games.

Betting on Baseball?

The problem has been a Washington bullpen that entered Wednesday with the second-worst ERA (5.50) in the league.

I’m taking the bullpens out of the equation.

Look for the starting pitchers to get off to a fast start in this matchup with no runs being scored in the first inning.

The bet: No runs in the first inning
