Minnesota Twins vs Los Angeles Angels Prediction 05-19-2023 MLB Picks

The Minnesota Twins and the Los Angeles Angels meet Friday in MLB action from Angel Stadium. The Twins are coming off a series versus the Dodgers this week, losing two of the three games. As for the Angels, they just finished up against the Orioles. After losses in two of the first three games, on Thursday Los Angeles took a close win to tie the series. Minnesota Twins

The Twins lost to the Dodgers 9-8 in Monday’s game but bounced back for a 5-1 victory in game two. Minnesota lost the rubber match on Wednesday 7-3, however. Starting pitcher Sonny Gray lasted 4.0 innings with two earned on five hits and three walks in that one.

For the starter job in the Friday game the Twins will send out Joe Ryan. This year over eight starts so far Ryan is 6-1 with a 2.16 ERA and 57 Ks in 50.0 innings. Ryan is 21-10 with a 3.30 ERA over 40 career starts.

Los Angeles Angels

Over on the Angels’ side, they beat the Orioles 9-5 on Monday then lost the next pair 7-3 and 3-1. On Thursday Los Angeles blew an early 3-0 lead but eventually powered out a 6-5 victory. Tyler Anderson went 5.0 frames in the start with three earned, six hits and two walks.

Reid Detmers will make the start for the Angels on Friday. Over his seven starts this year Detmers is 0-3 with a 4.89 ERA and 41 Ks in 35.0 innings. Detmers has a career record of 8-12 with a 4.39 ERA in 37 starts overall.

The Twins are 5-2 in their last seven Friday games and 17-39 in their last 56 road games. Minnesota is 3-9 in their last 12 versus the AL West.

Meanwhile, the Angels are 5-0 in their last five in game one of a series and 29-59 in their last 88 Friday games. Los Angeles is 24-52 in their last 76 versus a team with a winning record.

ANDREW’S FREE PICK

I’ll stick with the Twins in this one. Ryan is on a nice run these days, but doesn’t have much in the win column to show for it. Over his last three starts combined, Ryan is 1-1 with two earned in 18.0 total innings on 13 hits and three walks. As for Detmers, he’s had some ups and downs on 13.1 innings with nine earned on 17 hits and seven walks in his last trio. Minnesota should have some scoring opportunities early and I think they’ll take advantage.
