MLB betting market report: Daily picks, advice for Friday, July 8th

A new day brings new opportunities on the MLB card. Most of the card has competitively-lined games. There are a lot of new series getting underway on Friday.

Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds played a doubleheader on Friday. Pittsburgh's Bryse Wilson had a good start but the team's defense and bullpen failed him in the seventh.

Marlins lost 10-0 to the Mets yesterday. Jazz Chisholm Jr. is ramping up towards baseball activities and is set to play a Rookie game on Saturday.

Spencer Strider was dominant for the Braves, but they lost 3-2 in extra innings. Striders had 23 whiffs in 51 swings.

Rockies beat the Snakes by a run. Dallas Keuchel didn't throw a single cutter. He only allowed eight hard-hit balls and didn’t walk anybody over seven innings.

Jurickson Profar and CJ Abrams collided. Logan Webb was excellent over eight innings. Joe Musgrove walked four, but only allowed one hit. Musgrave's spin rates were down across the board.

Tony Gonsolin allowed 11 hard-hit balls over seven innings and only had three strikeouts. Brusdar Graterol left with a cramp after facing one batter.

There was an under bet on Royals-Astros series. Kris Bubic had a bad game against the Astros. The series was very entertaining.

Orioles beat the Angels 4-1. Mike Trout went 0-for-4 with three hard-hit balls.

Yankees beat Red Sox 6-5 at Fenway Park. Gerrit Cole was the subject of a lot of hate on social media. Rafael Devers hit a three-run homer in the fifth.

Detroit won 2-1 against the White Sox. The Tigers' bullpen ranks fourth in fWAR, third in ERA and fourth on FIP.

Marco Gonzales had zero strikeouts and just two whiffs in his 6.2 innings of work. Marco Gonzale allowed just 2 earned runs on 8 hits. Ty France came back from injury for the Mariners. The Blue Jays are tired after a long west coast trip.

There are pop-up storms in the Midwest and on the East Coast. The most threatened game is the Rays/Reds game with Shane McClanahan and Luis Castillo.

Marlins are playing at home against the Mets. The game is very close.

Phillies are playing better than St. Louis. Zack Wheeler and Wainwright are going to play each other. Ryan Helsley threw 26 pitches yesterday and Giovanny Gallegos worked back-to-back days.

Rockies are playing at Arizona on Friday. Zac Gallen has been bumped up about 15-20 cents depending on the book.

Yankees are playing at Red Sox. Nestor Cortes and Connor Seabold are going to start for the Red SOx.

Tigers are playing the White Sox at home. Tarik Skubal has allowed 26 runs on 36 hits in his last six starts covering 30 innings. The White Sides hit left-handed hitters well. Lucas Giolito has a lot of work to do.

Rays are playing at 7.5-point favorites against Reds. The total is 7 at Great American Ball Park.

Lucas Giolito has had a terrible start to the season. He gave up a lot of runs and a high number of hits. His last start against the Giants was his best of the year. The Tigers are a good barometer for his improvement.

Aaron Civale has had three tough assignments since returning from injury. He's had more swing and miss to his pitch profile. Civales has allowed 20 hard-hit balls out of 43 batted ball events.

Friday Best Bets is a market consensus number that should be widely available to most people.

Aaron Ashby and JT Brubaker are the listed starters for this game. Ash by has had some struggles recently and has allowed 18 runs on 28 hits in 18.2 innings. Brubsaker hasn't pitched since June 30 and his last start was skipped. Both teams rank in the bottom third of the league in Statcast’s Outs Above Average metric. Brad Boxberger and Josh Hader will be working for the fourth time in six days for Milwaukee. David Bednar and Wil Crowe will also be playing for a third time.

Guardians got a day off yesterday. They are playing against Royals. Aaron Civale and Brady Singer are similar pitchers this season. Civales has a 7.04 ERA with a 4.71 FIP and Singer has 4:4.30 ERA. The Royals bullpen is better than the Guardians' bullpen. I'm tracking my picks in this spreadsheet HERE. I'll take the plus-money price on the better bullpen today. It's a good bet.
