MLB division champions likely to repeat in 2023

There are six division champions from '22 who will be trying to wear the crown again in 2023. Here's a ranking of the most likely to least likely. The list includes the Seattle Mariners, the Oakland Athletics, and the Toronto Blue Jays.

The defending champions of the AL West are Houston Astros. The other teams in the division are not as good as the Astros right now. The team that won the World Series in 2017 is not likely to repeat in 2023.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are the division champions likely to repeat in 2023. The Padres were 22 games behind the Dodgers last year. San Diego looks a lot better this year, but the team is still 22 points behind Los Angles.

The Cardinals are the current MLB division champions. They have some questions with their outfield and starting rotation, but they still look like the best team in the division. The Cardinals have an urgency to win right now that the rest of the league doesn't.

The Braves won the NL East. The Phillies beat them in the playoffs. They are a threat to end Atlanta's streak of division titles. The Braves have been smart and prudent for a few years. This is the stretch where it's going to start to pay off.

Cleveland Guardians are the best team in the AL Central. The Twins are better than last year, even after bringing back Carlos Correa. Royals and Tigers are still young and have a lot of problems to solve. White Sox are a threat to keep the Guardians in fifth place.

The Yankees are the most likely to repeat as division champions in 2023. The rest of the division looks tougher than ever. The over-under on repeat division champs is four. New York Yankees is a better bet to not be one of them than the Yankees.
