Suárez has the opportunity to atone for a mediocre regular season by leading the way to a series clincher.
Strider performed well in Game 1, allowing two earned in seven innings. He is now tasked with staring down the Phillies lineup a second time in six days. Bryce Harper and Bryson Stott handled him well, the former with a home run in Game 1, and Stott with two hits. Manager Brian Snitker will walk a fine line between wanting to coax his starter to get him at least five innings and being ready to empty his bullpen to win at all costs. That pressure could mean that we will see early relief pitchers, which plays into the plan by Harper & Co. to be aggressive early in counts. Harper has three homers in this series and looks once again like a man on a mission in October.
The Braves are a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside of a ballpark frank: their vaunted offense has managed only seven runs in three games. And those came in just the last three innings of Game 2 when the Braves salvaged a win that they quite honestly didn’t deserve. If they are to stave off elimination, they need to get an early lead, build on it through power, and hand it off to the bullpen.
