NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. to visit Pennsylvania this month

NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. will be making an appearance at a Pennsylvania dirt track in September for a sprint car race.

The High Limit Sprint Car Series announced on Twitter/X that Earnhardt and members of his Dirty Mo Media company will be at Lernerville Speedway in Sarver on Tuesday, Sept. 26 for the Commonwealth Clash.

The 410 sprint car series was launched in 2022 by NASCAR Cup Series champion and dirt track racing ace Kyle Larson. Earnhardt spoke about the upcoming event on his Dale Jr. Download podcast on Thursday, Aug. 24 titled “Road Trip Recap From Martinsville.”

Earnhardt said the invitation to the dirt event came after he invited Larson to race in a CARS Tour event at Caraway Speedway in North Carolina. Earnhardt became a member of a new ownership group for the asphalt late model series in January.

Since Larson competed in the series, Earnhardt said he offered to participate in a High Limit Sprint Car Series event.

Larson will compete in the sprint car series race which also features other notable dirt track racers like Rico Abreu, Anthony Macri and Brent Marks. The September event at Lernverville will pay $50,000 to the winner.

This Saturday, Sept. 9, the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing will be hosting a “Day At The Grove” with many of the top names in the sport from yesteryear putting in an appearance including Gerald Chamberlain, Kenny Brightbill, Gary Gollub, Bobby Braxton, Van May, Lynn Paxton. Those stars will be signing autographs along with others in a morning session starting at 8 a.m. Admission for adults is $10. A wide array of race cars will be on display. Vintage race cars will be in action on the track starting at 11 a.m. through 2:30 p.m. Kids 12 and under are admitted free to the Williams Grove Speedway.

Brent Marks continued his string of 2023 big money race wins at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night when he dominated the C & D Rigging Jim and Sandy Kline Tribute Race for Lawrence Chevrolet 410 sprint cars.

Marks’ win was worth $7,100 thanks to a $1,100 bonus as posted by the Klines, former owners of the famed No. 22 sprint car driven by Greg Hodnett, Fred Rahmer and others.

The victory pushed Marks’ total earnings in his four oval wins to date this season to a cool $45,100 after also claiming the Tommy Hinnershitz Classic in April, the Mitch Smith Memorial in July and the Jack Gunn Memorial in August.

In the 20-lap 358 sprint main, Jayden Wolf scored his first ever win at the track, holding off Doug Hammaker.

Marks would lead all 25 laps of the Kline Tribute main event with Anthony Macri blasting into second on the first lap.

Champions were declared at Big Diamond Raceway on Friday night with Brett Kressley topping the Quandel Concrete Modifieds. Chuck Fayash is the Red, White and Blue Auto Roadrunner while Jordan Henn is the Achey Inc. Sportsman champion.

Tim Buckwalter won the T.P.Trailers NASCAR Modified 30 lap feature at Grandview Speedway on Saturday night while Brian Hirthler was tops in the 25 lap T.P.Truck Equipment NASCAR Sportsman feature. Grandview is back in action Saturday, Sept. 9, with Modifieds and Sportsman plus Trivia Night sponsored by Spunktown Tavern and Restaurant. It is the final point race of the season.

NASCAR is developing a youth ladder system that would give young drivers and their parents a clearer idea of the path to the summit of stock car racing, according to leading executive Ben Kennedy.

Kennedy said the goal is to create a “clear path where, if you want to become a future NASCAR driver, you can kind of look at that chart to see what that looks like.” He said NASCAR is in the early stages of developing the framework and that “there’s certainly a lot of work to do.” Until now, the proposed system had not been reported.

NASCAR is in advanced discussions with Netflix to have this season’s playoffs docu-series aired on the streaming platform, according to people familiar with the matter, in what could be a notable boost for the racing property. In February, SBJ first reported that NASCAR was planning to hold off on filming a full-season docu-series for 2023 like it had in 2022 when “Race For The Championship” aired on USA Network and, later, Peacock.

The next action for PASS Sprinters will make up for a one week break in their schedule because the PASS (PA Sprint Series)racers will be joining Tony Stewart’s All Star Circuit of Champions again, this time at Port Royal Speedway on Thursday, September 7, for one of the preliminary nights before that track’s annual Tuscarora 50.

The PASS portion of the show will be special as well, because it’s part of the FANiversary Tour sponsored by the Pennsylvania Game Commission commemorating the group’s 25th year of competition, and the race winner will earn an automatic starting slot in both the Race to Hunting Season event on Saturday, Sept. 16, at Selinsgrove, and the Keystone RaceSaver Challenge on Saturday, October 21, at Port Royal
