NASCAR: Major schedule change announced for 2024

There will be no Bristol dirt race on the 2024 NASCAR Cup Series schedule. However, Bristol is still set to have two race dates, with both races on the concrete surface.

The third edition of the dirt race at Bristol Motor Speedway this past April was indeed the last. Bristol has confirmed that the dirt race will no longer be on the NASCAR Cup Series schedule in 2024.

However, the four-turn, 0.533-mile (0.858-kilometer) high-banked oval in Bristol, Tennessee is still set to host two races, as it has done every year since it was added to the schedule in 1961. Both of the 2024 races are set to be contested on the track’s concrete surface.

This announcement comes ahead of this Saturday night’s round of 16 finale at the track. The 500-lap Bass Pro Shops Night Race is the first Cup Series race on the track’s concrete surface since last year’s playoffs.

Last year’s NASCAR Cup Series playoff race at Bristol was won by RFK Racing’s Chris Buescher, who was not a playoff driver in 2022.

This year, Buescher is the playoff field for the first time since his 2016 rookie season, and he is looking to advance to the round of 12 for the first time ever.

FanDuel Sportsbook, which is now giving fans a guaranteed $200 for signing up and placing a single $5 bet, lists 2021 Bristol playoff race winner Kyle Larson, who is already locked into the round of 12 after winning the opening playoff race at Darlington Raceway, as the favorite to win on Saturday night. Buescher is listed outside the top five at +1200.

The 2024 schedule has not yet been announced, but it is believed that the first Bristol race of the season will be contested in the spring, just as it has been during its dirt race years and just as it was before the switch to dirt. The second race is expected to remain a playoff night race.
