Charlotte Hornets (1-1) vs Brooklyn Nets (0-2)

Game Info: Monday, October 30, 2023 at 7:00 pm (Spectrum Center)

Betting Odds: Charlotte Hornets -1.5 -- Over/Under: 226

The Brooklyn Nets invade the Spectrum Center to take on the Charlotte Hornets on Monday night.

The Brooklyn Nets will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat to start the season after coming up short against the Mavericks in a 125-120 road loss on Friday. Cam Thomas led the way with 30 points on 12 of 19 shooting, Spencer Dinwiddie added 23 points and eight assists while Mikal Bridges chipped in with 18 points. As a team, the Nets shot 48 percent from the field and a sizzling 21 of 43 from the 3-point line as they kept pace with the Mavericks all the way until the fourth quarter where they leaked 37 points to allow Luka Doncic to carry the Mavericks over the line.

Meanwhile, the Charlotte Hornets will be hoping to bounce back in this one after getting thrashed by the Pistons in a 111-99 home loss on Friday. LaMelo Ball led the team with 20 points, nine rebounds and nine assists, Terry Rozier added 20 points on eight of 20 shooting, Gordon Hayward tallied 19 points with nine rebounds and four assists while Brandon Miller chipped in with 17 points off the bench. As a team, the Hornets shot just 37 percent from the field and seven of 28 from the 3-point line as they got off to a slow start, falling behind by double digits right away and never really finding their flow on offense. Ball shot just four of 17 from the field, Rozier shot zero of seven from the 3-point line and the Hornets tallied 18 turnovers as a team.

The Nets are going to be shorthanded again as Nic Claxton and Cameron Johnson are both out, while the Hornets don't have a single player listed on the injury report. The Nets have yet to taste success in this season, but they were right there with the Mavericks in hteir last outing, so they'll like their chances against this Hornets team who just lost to the Pistons. This is a game I'd rather stay away from, but I think there's some decent value with the Nets as slight underdogs in this spot, so I'm backing the Nets to get the job done behind a big game from the red-hot Cam Thomas.
