Newcastle vs Man City prediction and odds ahead of EFL Cup clash

Manchester City begin their Carabao Cup campaign with a trip to the north-west to face a Newcastle United who will also be looking to heavily rotate their side with Champions League next week. Both sides will no doubt prioritise their European exploits over the EFL Cup so we can expect a lot of changes from both sides ahead of the match.

City are the slight favourites at 7/5 with Betfred with the bookies expecting a tight affair with the hosts priced at 7/4 to win at St James' Park while a draw is 13/5. This will be the sixth meeting between the two sides in the competition with City picking up three wins and a draw against the Magpies.

Pep Guardiola has already stated he will be looking to use the youngsters over the likes of Erling Haaland, Kyle Walker and Ruben Dias ahead of this match. With Kevin De Bruyne, John Stones, Mateo Kovacic and Bernardo Silva all on the sidelines with injuries as well we can expect a completely different line-up to the one we are used to seeing.

For Eddie Howe and his side, you would think they would be keen for another cup run but with Champions League football on the schedule with an impressive start at the San Siro last week, he will be focusing on welcoming PSG to St James' Park.

Tips

  • Both teams to score - 4/7

  • Over 2.5 goals - 8/11
