Newsboy’s horseracing tips for Friday’s four meetings, including Southwell Nap
Newsboy fancies his nap, Carlos Felix, to win at Southwell and also hopes Henery Hawk can score on the same card and complete his Daily Double
CARLOS FELIX gets the Nap vote to follow up a winning debut for Stella Barclay by lifting the Build Your Acca With BetUK Handicap (8.15) at Southwell on Friday evening.
The six-year-old son of Lope De Vega, previously successful for David Simcock and Phil Kirby, went off at 25-1 on his first outing for the Lancashire trainer when taking on 11 rivals at Newcastle 10 days ago.
But Carlos Felix laughed at those odds, hitting the front inside the final furlong under Brandon Wilkie, whose 5lb claim will come in very tonight, to beat Peripeteia by a length and a half.
The handicapper has reacted with a 3lb rise in the weights to a new mark of 62, but Carlos Felix has gone close from higher ratings.
The way he stays on over a mile and a half, my selection will be well suited by going back up in trip to an additional two furlongs, and the Tapeta surface holds no terrors.
Earlier on the Southwell card, HENERY HAWK is taken to regain the winning thread in the Always Gamble Responsibly With BetUK Handicap (7.15).
After scores over five furlongs at Newcastle and Wolverhampton, Linda Perratt’s sprinter ran a fine second to White Umbrella over six furlongs at the latter track and another good account is on the cards.
