NHL parlay picks Jan. 8: Bet on Canucks to cover against Rangers

There's plenty to like on a four-game slate for a quiet Monday across the NHL.

The pregame narrative: The Pittsburgh Penguins and Philadelphia Flyers are both finding themselves in plenty of low-event games, putting the under in play. The Vancouver Canucks are a great team to back when they're underdogs, as is the case tonight against the New York Rangers. Lastly, teasing down the total and taking the over between the Dallas Stars and Minnesota Wild closes out this ticket.

NHL parlay picks

Parlay: Penguins vs. Flyers under 6.5 goals + Canucks +1.5 + Stars vs. Wild over 5.5 goals (+328)

Penguins vs. Flyers under 6.5 goals (-134): This is a wager I'd recommend making as a standalone bet, and it's a nice price to include in our parlay.

These teams are winning thanks to strong goaltending. Pittsburgh ranks fourth in team save percentage (.911) while Philadelphia places 11th (.905), according to Natural Stat Trick.

Offence hasn't been a strong suit for either side. The Penguins are an uninspiring 20th in goals per game (3.03) while the Flyers are an even worse 25th (2.90).

The under on this total has hit in seven of Philadelphia's last 10 contests and three of Pittsburgh's last five.

Other parlay picks

Canucks +1.5 (-200): The Rangers have been very good this season, but the Canucks have been better.

Vancouver has the fourth-best save percentage (.914) while New York sits seventh (.908). The Rangers are tied for 10th in goals per game (3.37), but the Canucks are first (3.82).

Winning on the road hasn't been an issue for Vancouver this season. The team is a solid 11-7-2 away from Rogers Arena, covering this spread in nine consecutive away contests.

The Rangers, meanwhile, have failed to win by two-plus goals in 13 of their last 19 contests.

Stars vs. Wild over 5.5 goals (-159): Dallas constantly finds itself in high-scoring games.

The Stars have the highest overs percentage (65.8%) in the NHL, according to Scores and Odds. They've gone over this total in five consecutive games and 13 of their last 15 outings.

Dallas' dynamic offence should be able to fill the net and push this over the total against Minnesota. The Wild place a mediocre 20th in team save percentage (.895), presenting a prime opportunity for the Stars' third-best scoring offence (3.58) to go to work.

Dallas is an underwhelming 19th in team save percentage (.896), making this a plus matchup for Minnesota as well.
