Novak Djokovic vs Daniil Medvedev prediction, odds, betting tips and best bets for US Open tennis final

Novak Djokovic will continue his bid to make it three grand slams out of four in 2023 when he faces the man who beat him in the 2021 final, Daniil Medvedev, in this year's US Open decider.

Djokovic has endured an uneven recent past at Flushing Meadows, winning the last of his three titles in New York in 2018.

That loss two years ago was Djokovic's sixth final defeat in the last major of the season, succumbing in straight sets as Medvedev claimed the first major of his career.

At the time, Medvedev looked well placed to become serial champions Djokovic and Rafael Nadal's greatest threat – but his defeat to the Spaniard in the subsequent Australian Open was his most recent appearance in a Grand Slam final.

Medvedev emphatically beat the man considered Djokovic's arch-rival these days, Carlos Alcaraz, in the semifinals this time, continuing an excellent run that has also seen him beat world number eight Andrey Rublev and number 14 Alex De Minaur.

By contrast, Djokovic's form is hard to judge because of the opponents he has faced on his way to the final, with ninth seed Taylor Fritz his toughest test so far.

Djokovic was two sets behind to world number 38 Laslo Djere before recovering to reach the fourth round. His four-match winning run against Medvedev ended in straight sets in their most recent meeting, which took place in Dubai.

Having missed out on defending his Wimbledon title by losing to Alcaraz in the final, the 36-year-old has the chance to lift a record-extending 24th major trophy if he gains revenge against Medvedev and beats by far the highest-ranked player he has encountered at this year's tournament.

Novak Djokovic vs. Daniil Medvedev prediction, odds

World number two Djokovic is a heavy favourite to beat the player immediately behind him in the rankings, but odds of 2/5 will not appeal to punters seeking value.

Medvedev, at 2/1 with BetOnSports, is more enticing, particularly after he saw off Alcaraz in style to give himself a chance of repeating that emphatic previous win over Djokovic in New York.

Six of the 12 matches to have been completed between the pair have required the minimum number of sets available, including the two most recent of their three meetings at Grand Slam tournaments

You can make Djokovic's odds more compelling by backing him at 21/10 to prevail in three sets, or bet on Medvedev at a sizeable 15/2 not to drop a set.
