The NRL are planning to play a premiership match between South Sydney and Manly in the United States in 2023. The match would be played a week before the season kick-off. It would take place at the Banc of California Stadium. Fox Sports and Channel 9 have previously backed the concept. South Australia boss Blake Solly is also a fan. He had discussions with the NRL about the game a few years ago. There is a potential $20 million-a-year windfall if the venture is successful. Los Angeles FC is scheduled to host men’s and women's soccer matches at 2028 Los Los Olympics.

Manly”s major sponsor, PointsBet, has aggressively targeted the American market and uses retired NBA legend Shaquille O‘Neal to promote its brand.
