Penn State Jumps One Spot To No. 10 In College Football Playoff Rankings

Penn State football moved up one spot to No. 10 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings, ESPN announced Tuesday evening. The Nittany Lions were ranked No. 11 in the first College Football Playoff ranking of the season last week.

Penn State holds an overall record of 8-1 and a conference record of 5-1 and is coming off a 51-15 blowout win against Maryland.

The Nittany Lions fell behind Ohio State, Georgia, Michigan, Florida State, Washington, Oregon, Texas, Alabama, and Ole Miss. James Franklin’s group jumped former No. 9-ranked Oklahoma after it fell 27-24 to Oklahoma State.

Penn State’s only loss of the season so far was against the Buckeyes at Ohio Stadium in a 20-12 defeat. The Nittany Lions could finish in the top four if they win out. If that is to happen, though, they’ll need to beat Michigan on Saturday, which is 9-0 and coming off a 41-13 victory over Purdue.

Penn State’s top-10 matchup against the Wolverines is scheduled to kick off at noon on Saturday, November 11, at Beaver Stadium. The game will be televised on FOX, and Big Noon Kickoff will also air from outside Beaver Stadium. The Nittany Lions will open as 5.5-point underdogs.

The next College Football Playoff rankings will be announced at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, November 14, on ESPN.
