Phillies vs Diamondbacks Prediction, Odds, Lines & Picks: NLCS Game 4

The 2023 National League Championship Series continues on Friday, Oct. 20 with an exciting Game 4 matchup. All eyes are on the Arizona Diamondbacks to see if they have what it takes to even the series after picking up a 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday.

Game 3 looked like it was heading towards extra innings as the NLCS participants were tied 1-1 at the bottom of the ninth inning. That was until Ketel Marte hit a single off Phillies closer Craig Kimbrel, which drove in Pavin Smith for the walk-off victory.

Can Philadelphia rebound from last night’s loss to take a commanding 3-1 series lead? Or will Arizona find a way to win back-to-back outings at Chase Field?

Here’s a look at everything you must know about tonight’s Phillies vs. Diamondbacks Game 4, including the latest NLCS odds, a prediction, and the best bets to make.

Phillies vs Diamondbacks Game 4 Prediction

After surrendering 15 runs to the Phillies in Games 1 and 2, the Diamondbacks looked like a completely new team by holding their NLCS foes to one run on Thursday.

However, while the feat was impressive, I wouldn’t count on lightning striking twice.

After all, this is an offensively gifted Phillies team that was averaging 5.8 runs per game in the postseason until last night. It was also the first example of them being held to fewer than three runs in the 2023 MLB playoffs. With booming bats like Bryce Harper, Nick Castellanos, and Kyle Schwarber in the lineup, I wouldn’t count on Philly staying quiet for long.

Fortunately, for the road team, the Diamondbacks are sending Joe Mantiply to the mound for Game 4. The 32-year-old LHP was absolutely torched by the Phillies in game 2, allowing three earned runs on as many hits with two walks issued over 1/3 inning.

Mantiply now heads into tonight’s contest with a 7.36 ERA in five career meetings with Philadelphia.

Meanwhile, the Phillies’ Cristopher Sanchez is slated to make his MLB postseason debut. The Dominican hurler was solid throughout the regular season, going 3-5 with a 3.44 ERA and 96 strikeouts across 99 1/3 innings.

Having said that, he hasn’t had much success against Arizona. In two career meetings with the D-backs, Sanchez has given up five earned runs over just 1 2/3 innings — good for a 27.00 ERA.

With neither starting pitcher providing much consistency, I’m backing the team with the better bats and that’s the Phillies. Philadelphia eats struggling pitchers for breakfast and that’ll be the case if Mantiply can’t bounce back from his latest start.

The Phillies have also won five of their last six games against the Diamondbacks, so I’m taking Thursday’s walk-off win as an anomaly. Rob Thomson will get his batters back on track before they return to the City of Brotherly Love with a 3-1 NLCS lead.

Phillies vs Diamondbacks Game 4 Player Prop

One Phillies vs. Diamondbacks player prop I like for tonight is Nick Castellanos finishing with more than 1.5 total bases.

Castellanos has been Philadelphia’s best player throughout the preseason. The veteran outfielder is batting .313 with 10 hits and five home runs over the last nine games, collecting 27 total bases along the way — an average of 3.0 per game.

Furthermore, he finished with the Over on this prop in five of those contests. Considering how Castellanos has a double in two at-bats against Mantiply, I like his odds to rack up the bases tonight.
