Premier League predictions: Newcastle vs. Brighton odds, picks

Two teams with gate-crashing potential in the English Premier League will meet on Saturday morning and judging by the odds it could be the best match of the weekend.

Bookmakers are having a tough time separating Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle, with the former sitting as a slight +155 favorite and the latter hanging at +160 on the three-way moneyline.

Both the Seagulls and Magpies are coming off disappointing losses over the weekend and will look to bounce back with what could be a huge match in the early part of the season.

Brighton vs. Newcastle pick

Brighton opened the season with back-to-back 4-1 wins, but the quality of competition could certainly be questioned.

The Seagulls had the pleasure of welcoming Luton Town back to the Premier League in Matchweek 1 and then followed that performance up with another rollicking win over Wolverhampton on the road.

The party would end last weekend with a 3-1 loss to West Ham at home.

No team has played a more high-event style of soccer than Brighton to start the season.

The Seagulls have scored nine goals, conceded five and have seen 14.3 total expected goals (7.7 xGF, 6.6 xGA) created in their first three matches.

Roberto De Zerbi wants him team to be all action and they are delivering.

Newcastle also started their season on a flyer, beating Aston Villa 5-1 at St. James Park.

That had plenty of people picking the Magpies to upset Manchester City on the road in Matchweek 2, but that match ended in a 1-0 defeat.

The market wasn’t too fussed about that result, however, as Newcastle closed as a +115 favorite against Liverpool on Sunday.

The Magpies would endure an epic meltdown in that match, blowing a 1-0 lead with a man advantage to hand the Reds a 2-1 victory.

Unlike Brighton, Newcastle have generally kept things much closer to the vest on the pitch.

Things got out of hand in their 5-1 win over Aston Villa in Week 1, but that match saw three goals scored very early and that will always cause things to go off-script.

Even when up a man against Liverpool it seemed like Newcastle was very cautious about getting caught on the counterattack and that held them back a bit.

Both of these teams are going to want the ball and fancy themselves in this kind of matchup, but it seems like the market is a bit too high on Newcastle on the road here.

The Magpies have some quick attacking wingers, but their slow buildup play against Liverpool could play right into Brighton’s hands as the Seagulls thrive on turning you over and flying the other way quickly.

The Seagulls look like great value at home on Saturday.
