Preview: Chippewas open season at Oklahoma State
The Central Michigan football team will play Oklahoma State at 7 p.m. Thursday in Boone Pickens Stadium. The Cowboys are coached by Mike Gundy. CMU is coming off an improved season where they upset Washington State in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl and finished with an 8-4 record. The team is the heavy favorite after a 12-2 season in 2022. Jim McElwain wasn't at the helm for the start of 2021.
Oklahoma State is coming off a Playstation Fiesta Bowl victory over Notre Dame. The Cowboys are expected to dominate the Big-12 this season. They are going to play against Texas and Oklahoma. Senior quarterback Spencer Sanders is the reigning Fiestabowl Offensive MVP.
Jayden Davis is expected to start alongside Trey Jones in the Chippewa secondary. Donte Kent will start at cornerback alongside senior Rolliann Sturkey. The team is rebuilding after the departure of Gage Kreski and Dishon McNary.
Chippewas open their season at Oklahoma State. Lew Nichols finished the year as the nation's leading rusher. Daniel Richardson will have to cover Carlos Carriere quickly. Dallas Dixon is Richardson's top target.
