INSIDE MAIL

HAWKESBURY

RACE 1

Yet He Moves is a Chris Waller-trained son of Adelaide, the last horse to win the Cox Plate prior to Winx’s four in a row. This lightly-raced gelding was $31 into $8.50 on debut at Kembla on Feb 23 and ran eighth, but it was a good eighth. Skipping ahead to the present, Yet He Moves has won both trials ahead of this. His biggest danger could be his stablemate Gago who has midweek form but Saturday potential. The 1500m is bang on the money. Supreme Command is very fit and barrier 2 should see him get every chance.

Bet: Yet He Moves to win, exacta 2 to beat 1

RACE 2

Struff was bought by Richard Collett for $25,000 as a yearling in 2021 and even though her earnings currently stand at only $7,050; she earned that running second on debut at her only start too by the way, in a deep maiden at Kembla. Trialling like she ‘just wins’ but drawn out and this is a good field. Alvina’s Luck is trained by Ron Quinton who also trained this mare’s ‘aunt’ Ofcoursiecan. As for this Zoustar mare, she has been strong and impressive late in her two lead-in heats at Randwick. Rapido, the Capitalist replica, is a real racehorse.

Bet: Struff to win, quinella 3,4 box trifecta 2,3,4,6

RACE 3

Harper’s Siren is a half-sister to Winter Cup winner Harper’s Choice who is best remembered for his second to Jon Snow in the 2017 ATC Derby. This daughter of Astern was second to a moderately handy horse at Gosford first-up and more or less went to the line untested at Newcastle. Avonview is a son of Pierro and grandson of Skating. The Anthony Cummings-housed bay kept to the task willingly when four at Kembla on debut on July 27. Charlie Foxtrot is consistent and well placed up to 1300m. Viking Blood has come back well.

Bet: Harper’s Siren to win, exacta 11 to beat 2

RACE 4

Reggie’s Folly is a son of Bagot winner Reggie and a half to Coolmore Classic winner, Heaven’s Above. Reggie’s Folly has only won 1 from 12 but he came from a long way back that day to beat Speak Now and Bunker Hut. As for more recent times, he gives every impression he is building up to a win. Kokoshnik has only missed out on a medal once in her eight starts. That said, she has only one win on her C.V but Richard and Will Freedman just could not have asked for a more favourable race than this one. Marvelous is talented enough to figure, so too are Kingston Charm and Dancemania.

Bet: Reggie’s Folly to win

RACE 5

Celestial Fury is a Savabeel gelding out of a Galileo which accounts for the 1900m win on his C.V. He only has to go 1800m on Tuesday and does so third-up off a pleasing and honourable second at Kembla over the mile. Just needs some luck from the widest alley. Gulf of Tomini has won five of 23 with seven placings. First run for the new stable on the day but it is a very suitable and winnable race even with the 60kg. Kozluca appears to mix his form a bit but to be fair to the local, he is always dictated to by outside circumstances likes pace and those general luck issues, etc. Izfallingdown and Jack Duggan are major players.

Bet: Celestial Fury to win

RACE 6

Skye’s Legacy is a flashy chestnut mare not unlike her paternal half-brother Giga Kick in that respect. Skye’s Legacy has been to Randwick too; fifth on debut on the Kensington on December 2 which she followed up with a narrow but really impressive Sapphire Coast maiden win 25-days after. Finished third in a Kembla trial behind Big Parade and Amor Victorious on July 12. Lady Harlem looks ‘the obvious’ and she may well be but she still has a few little things against her on the day. Never Sorry could peak here third-up unless the draw steps in as a negative. Broadway Bouncer and Viking Blood can each play a role.

Bet: Skye’s Legacy to win

RACE 7

I Stole It is a Ron Quinton trained gelding who sports the Mamzelle Pedrille colours (and lots of others at his High Street stables). This one is a really handsome son of Super One was fantastic winning at Kembla on July 29. Sure, he got a ‘Ronny Quinton ride’ from Andrew Adkins but praise to the horse, he won by a length and a half and ran 1.09.86s; a good number for that track and trip. Glacier Queen has a 65 rating, the best in the race, but topweight to go with it. Can really see her motoring late with the best backmarker jockey on the business riding her. Stablemate Elegant Empress and Godolphin’s Los Padres are huge players.
