RACE 1

Arctic Glamour is a half sister to Leon Macdonald’s South Australian stakes-winner Waging War making her somewhat anticipated debut on Monday, The Ryan/Alexiou trained daughter of Frosted has won both of her trials at Rosehill and did it well within herself each time. Kitty Chat is a flashy chestnut who beat Red Resistance on a trial in the summer and has been quite good on her two recent trials. Hatasu gives the impression she will be strong at the end of 1200m. Ruby Surprise looked good winning her Hawkesbury trial.

Bet: Arctic Glamour to win

RACE 2

Need Some Luck didn’t have much of that when he debuted here on May 31. He drew 11 of 11 and was cast wide for the trip but stuck to his guns resolutely finishing an honourable second. This half-brother to Chautauqua has drawn box one this time. Reggae Fire is a Chris Waller trained son of I Am Invincible whose trials are infinitely better than how they read on paper. Nice horse. Ditto that for Sunlord who is a half brother to Splintex and Invictus Salute.

Bet: Need Some Luck to win

RACE 3

Outsider, a $1.05m yearling, controlled the race from start to finish thanks to barrier 2 and Kerrin McEvoy here first-up. It’s barrier 1, same jockey, same track on Monday and frankly the extra 100m should be in her favour. Stablemate Oriental Tycoon has taken full advantage of soft draws in those last two runs under the new management meaning that he will likely be on-speed again here where he is a last start (easy) winner. Bunker Hut has form behind very good horses like Sharp ‘N’ Smart, Elliptical, Yellow Brick et al.

Bet: Outsider to win, quinella 1,8

RACE 4

Just A Jedi is building up to a win. The Ryan/Alexiou gelding would probably have won last start, last Wednesday as it happens, had it been any other track than Canterbury. He made up so much ground from the 600m to the finish bearing in mind that it was 1900m then and 2140m on Monday at a track he loves. Angel Of Light was back in the groove third-up over 2000m at Kembla. Drawn out again but she is quite attractively weighted in some respects. You can never write off Deniliquin whose last win was here over 2200m. Brown Thomas adds value.

Bet: Just A Jedi to win

RACE 5

Louisville is not only a striking horse, he is a blue-blood of quite epic proportions. Bred in NZ by his owner Gerry Harvey, Louisville’s dam, Edie, is a daughter of the 1999 Melbourne Cup winner Jezabeel. Louisville placed at all of his three starts in NZ in February and March respectively. Fast forward to May 20 and the now Chris Waller trained gelding was a close runner-up at Newcastle to the handy Time Quest. Stablemate Gleefilly loomed to win here first-up but maybe her condition gave out a bit late. Resistible is too consistent to leave out.

Bet: Louisville to win, quinella 9,11

RACE 6

Mediaro was scratched from Newcastle on Saturday, scratched from another race on this card as well. The son of Lonhro is first-up at a mile but he is at home and has been brought up to speed with two trials, one at 1100m, the other at 1030m and both were way better than his finishing position (s) would suggest. . Huge watch on Darlington County, the ex-Kiwi by So You Think now with Chris Waller. She has been consistent the whole prep and she should be very strong at the end of a mile. Cream Rises was the eye-catcher of his race on May 31.

Bet: Mediaro each-way

RACE 7

Powerful Peg has raced nine times for four wins, three seconds, a third and a fifth. Perhaps the most compelling performance to date is that she is a last start winner at this same track and distance. That was on March 1 but she is ready to rip in again after two sterling trials in deep heats. West Of Africa adds a whole of interest. He was going around in some big races last winter in Brisbane to no avail it must be said but he is a nice enough horse whose biggest win (of two so far) was at this same track and distance. Selous has been fantastic in every run this preparation. Erno has trialled well.

Bet: Powerful Peg to win

RACE 8

Consenza is a valuable filly later on that is, as a broodmare, given she is by Zoustar and boasts Mannerism as her third dam. She had trialled exceedingly well before winning first-up at Wyong then came straight to town and won despite drifting from $13 to $20. Hard to find fault with a horse on a hat-trick, particularly a well-bred one from a top stable. Super Bright has some Midway form on her C.V and some other decent runs here and there. She shapes a big improver second-up from a good draw and the claim for Dylan Gibbons. Waikiki overcame difficulty to win here last start.
