INSIDE MAIL

RACE 1

Kingston Charm is a very valuable filly given her fourth dam is Spirit Of Kingston. The John Thompson-trained galloper has only been to the 1600m once before and that was a closing third at Randwick on Boxing day. Third-up on Tuesday in a small field, she only needs an out from barrier one. Dancemania has raced twice and made improvement from one run to the next. He is arguably the second best horse in this line-up. Rabairnreach has the depth to his form more than most.

Bet: Kingston Charm to win

RACE 2

Double Scoop can deliver John Thompson and early double on the card. This filly is by Press Statement; her grand-dam is the three-times stakes-winner Dubleanny. She raced like a horse first-up when she resumed at Canterbury (faded a bit late) but refused to yield when she fronted-up there two weeks later finishing second. Diva Carolina should be at her peak now being third-up. Has a good draw and this looks within her limits. Night To Remember has trialled seven times, the last two or three were by far her best. Finds a winnable race.

Bet: Double Scoop to win, quinella 7,8

RACE 3

Shaken is the fifth foal of the Blue Diamond winner and Golden Slipper runner-up Earthquake. None of the previous offspring have lit up the Richter scale as yet but Shaken has looked very, very good in her two trials. Barrier 3 has to be a plus around here surely. That goes double for Rockabilly Rebel who has all the pace in the world to take full advantage of barrier 2. She trials like a good horse. Same goes for Love And Light, a rolled-gold typical example of her father, Capitalist. Manhattan Baby is the value runner in a good race.

Bet: Shaken to win, box trifecta and First 4: Nos. 2,8,10,12

RACE 4

Soobooco has raced five times and finished second at four of them. The other one was the Todman on debut on a bottomless track so let’s forget that one. Confession time, this writer has marked Soobooco as ‘borderline good thing’ a few times and went down with the ship. Still, it took Narito to beat him at his only track/trip run before this one. Exsensible is a very, very fast horse himself. It’s going to be interesting to see if anyone wants to, or can, deny him the fence. Loads of pressure on in this race, could Parmenio swoop. Intrigued by Ozpharoah.

Bet: Soobooco to win, quinella 3,6, Ozpharoah to place

RACE 5

How’s this for something. This is a Class 1 & Maiden Plate at Wyong and it includes a Group 1 placegetter who has also run in a Caulfield Cup - that’s Benaud. Then there is Sky Out who was beaten five-lengths in the German Derby. Throw in Fleet Commander to the mix; he’s the best bred horse in the world isn’t he, by Galileo out of Atlantic Jewel. Hope no else does but I remember writing that Benaud will win a Group 1 by the end of 2023. Make matters worse, I am tipping Sky Out to beat him in a Class 1!

Bet: Sky Out to win

RACE 6

Queen Astrid has made a smooth transition from the Mark Newnham stable to Brad Widdup HQ at Hawkesbury. In fact, that is an understatement; her two runs for Widdup have been one career best followed by another. Not that this is a slam-dunk or another but Widdup has found the perfect race for this filly whose fourth dam is Emancipation no less. Always In, the Kim Waugh-trained daughter of Never Out, has barely put a foot wrong in her six starts. Her only win to date was here at Wyong where she still won despite drawing 10 of 10. Monte Outlander ran second to a subsequent winner (and a stablemate) last start.

Bet: Queen Astrid to win, Daily Double 1st leg (1), 2nd leg (9)

RACE 7

Captain Bond is deadset the fastest horse in the business when he is at his best. Example? Well, he beat Remlaps Commander easily one day at Gosford and ran 56.29 seconds in his other win at Kembla over the 1000m. He trialled a bomb as usual the other day. Barrier 2 sealed the deal (for me anyway). Silvanito was deemed good enough to run (unsuccessfully as it turned out) in the Merson Cooper on debut. Fast forward to the present and the two trials have been really impressive. Orbalent bolted in here at her only run at the track/trip and is on a hat-trick now.

Bet: Captain Bond to win, Silvanito each-way, quinella 3,5

RACE 8

Angara is one for one at the track and distance and was well-backed that day; $5 into $4. You hardly ever see wins like his. He was last at the 800m and basically just circled the whole field and had them covered half way up the straight. The Paul Perry trained son of Frankel must have run some massive splits when beaten a nose at Kembla last start. Modern Millie has only won once in 22 starts. That win was on debut in England. To give her dues, she has placed 7 times and went very, very close a couple of times last prep. Sir Goodric and Invinctus Lad have serious claims.

Bet: Angara to win, quinella 2,9, box trifecta 2,6,8,9
