Racing tips: Brighton course specialist Junoesque can record a 9th win at the Sussex track

The NAP for Monday was unfortunately a NR in the morning, leaving me with just one selection on the day. Clever And Cool broke very slowly, which was to be expected and that probably cost her from finishing in the places, as she finished 4th, running on strongly in the final furlong or so.

Nottingham 4:40 – Mutaany 9/4 (1pt B365)

Wen Moon might be the pick for many punters in this race due to him winning on his seasonal debut and he does have the fitness edge over most of the horses in this race, but I think Mutaany could be better than these and I'm hoping his fitness isn't a concern and that a recent gelding op will have brought out further improvement from his 2yo campaign.

He was a decent juvenile, winning one race and finishing as runner-up on four occasions. The form of his win has started to work out nicely with the runner-up winning twice and being placed twice since, as well as the third winning twice on turf this year already. The form of his previous runner-up performances looks okay as well, with Kerdos winning again since and finishing 2nd the time after, now rated 92. Overall, this race doesn't look anywhere near as strong as what he's been competing against and his handicap mark of 83 could still be on the low side for a horse who has a decent pedigree and has a good chance of progressing again this season, especially with the gelding-op which should help him settle.

He has run from the front before, but I don't think they'll be taking on Open Market in this race, as that horse is a nutter and will bomb off from the front, but I'm hoping Dane O'Neill sits just in behind that horse and can pounce when the front runner gets tired late on like he did last time out at Yarmouth.

Brighton 2:50 – Junoesque 9/2 (1pt)

John Gallagher's Jonoesque has dropped down to a decent handicap mark of 53, which is 4lbs lower than his last winning mark which came in May of last year at Brighton. She is a course regular here and has won here eight times, so knows the track like the back of her hand and clearly appreciates it when she returns to this venue.

This trip isn't a huge concern as she is a front-running horse and Darragh Keenan will be able to set the fractions he wants, as hopefully he won't be contested for that lead. She will like the ground, with no rain forecast and she recently ran well on seasonal reappearance, which would've put her spot on for today's assignment, which has seen her win 2nd time out 2 of the last 3 seasons.
