Racing TV Handicap 2023 Betting Tips and Predictions

On the second day of the Boodles July Festival at Newmarket Racecourse, there are some excellent races, but one of the best from a betting perspective may just be the Racing TV Handicap, also known as the Boodles Handicap, which is due off at 16:45.

This seven-furlong event is competitive, especially if the early betting is anything to go by. The winner looks as though it could pretty much come from anywhere, leaving punters with anything but a simple task.

Our Best Prediction: Persuasion (each-way) @ 8/1

Persuasion has largely been keeping Class 3 company over the last year or so, and although he hasn’t won for a while, the gelding comes here off the back of some solid efforts, while the handicapper continues to relent, leaving the six-year-old looking well handicapped. He’s now an eye-catching 7lbs below his last winning mark.

In four attempts this season, the mount of Saffie Osborne hasn’t finished outside of the top four, finishing fourth (of 10) at Newbury last time out, beaten less than two lengths by the winner. That form is respectable, as is his third to Montassib in a Class 2 over course and distance back in May. For my money, that’s some of the best form on offer here, the strength of which makes him look like a solid play an odds of 8/1.

Our Each Way Prediction: Under The Twilight (each-way) @ 11/1

Few horses come into this race in better form than Under The Twilight, who may not be done just yet. The mare won over seven furlongs at Salisbury last time out and she did it in fine style, shooting clear of the field. Granted, that was a lesser contest, but she suggested that she’s quite a bit clear of the handicapper, so is certainly worth her place in this better grade.

Let’s not forget, prior to that Salisbury win, she was seen finishing a close-up third (of 18) in a hugely competitive Class 3 handicap over six furlongs at Newbury. That form gives her more than a decent chance of getting involved here and she’s another who catches the eye as an each-way candidate.

Our Dark Horse Prediction: Love De Vega (each-way) @ 14/1

Now with Charlie Johnston, Love De Vega comes into this race off the back of a break, which probably isn’t ideal, though he has gone well fresh before, winning after a mammoth 415-day break over course and distance last season, so we ought not to be surprised if he runs well here.

After all, we are talking about a course and distance winner, who has one at this level. The colt is also now just 1lbs above his last winning mark. That shouldn’t be ignored as it leaves him well weighted here.
