Royal Ascot 2022 betting tips for Tuesday: Odds-on Baaeed and Coroebus line-up for favourite backers on first day

Royal Ascot is here, with just a few hours to go until the global spectacle sets off in the Berkshire sun.

The Ascot showpiece is set to continue in a similar fashion with huge prize money on offer and many horses coming from around the world to compete in the biggest flat festival in top-class contests.

Frankel was a five-time course winner here and even won on the opening day of the festival twice, once in the Queen Anne and once in the St James’s Palace.

There could even be a runner or two this year that could replicate Frankel’s incredible record of a 14 run unbeaten streak, with nearly £3m in prize money, and nine Group 1 victories.

The opening day of Ascot is going to be a huge one this year and the runners look ready to put on another spectacle.

Looking at these huge races along that have a huge importance for the future it’s very helpful to look back at past winners and trends of those winners to help guide selections for the upcoming renewal.

This is the type of 1m race that produces big winners and they often come as the favourite.

Palace Pier (2021), Circus Maximus (2020), Ribchester (2017), Solow (2015), Toronado (2014), and Frankel (2012) have all won as favourites in the last ten years and these winners exemplify huge winners.

The majority of past winners have been aged four, with seven of the last ten fitting that criteria, only two 5-year-olds have won the Queen Anne.

This is where Baaeed fits the bill, another odds-on big favourite who’s tipped for potential and can follow up on a previous Group 1 win with another here at Royal Ascot.

The unbeaten colt by Sea The Stars is another to showcase William Haggas’ incredible season who has been getting plenty of winners.

Baaeed himself won against last year’s winner Palace Pier at Ascot in October by a neck and then followed that Group 1 victory with yet another at Newbury in May and looks capable of improving even more into the best flat horse to follow this flat season.

Baaeed at 1/3 currently, looks like a great price especially if adding to any ante-post multiples of Royal Ascot this year, as this horse is certainly going to become one of the biggest names in racing if he continues in this fashion.

King’s Stand Stakes betting tip

Nature Strip at 7/2 & King’s Lynn each-way at 14/1

This Group 1 5f sprint doesn’t often bring about huge priced winners but Andrew Balding, Group 1 classic-winning trainer thinks there could be a well-priced punt in his Betway blog with King’s Lynn.

Balding thinks he “ran very well in this race last year, where he was also slightly unlucky. He’s got good course form and is in great order at home, so we go there in hope. The two overseas raiders could be exceptional, so we’ll find out where our British sprinters stand on a global scale.”

Battaash won this Group 1 contest in 2020 followed by Oxted the year after and it continues to be a mix of trainers and jockeys winning.

But their RPR’s (Racing Post Rating) have all been 125 or more and then rated within 7lb of the top-rated runner, while eight of ten had ran twice or more that season.

Nature Strip fits the two trends well but the Wesley Ward-trained favourite Golden Pal has ran just once and this colt is yet to win in Britain.

Ward is sending a few of his horses to Ascot this year including a very interesting entry into Saturday’s meeting.

Although progressing well this US runner might be the one to take on and opt for the Australian runner instead who relished taking on Eduardo again in April and overturned his third place in March to win by over three lengths in Group 1 company.

St James’s Palace Stakes betting tip

Coroebus 8/11

2000 Guineas winner, Coroebus is the odds-on favourite for Charlie Appleby to win over this 1m trip.

Favourites have won this Group 1 contest on five occasions in the last ten renewals.

At 8/11 Coroebus is worth the punt to make it a great opening day for racegoers and favourite backers.

William Buick will ride the Appleby-trained horse in what has proven to be just as lethal combination as the Marquand and Haggas duo.

If the odds-on shot isn’t appealing for an Ascot bet, consider another of Balding’s big priced punt and another aptly named horse for the day, Berkshire Shadow at 33/1 who is also featured in his documentary with Betway after a thrilling 2021 Ascot outing.

Balding said: “Berkshire Shadow won the Coventry last year and did well all season. He ran in the 2000 Guineas on his comeback, and looked very good. He’s a pretty good horse, but so is Coroebus, who won the Guineas, so we know it won’t be easy. He’ll have a fighting chance at a big price.”
